Board Members for Next Year's PTA

Still looking for board members for next year's PTA! Elections for next year's PTA board are happening at our final general membership of the year on June 9th at 7:00PM (at the Rockwell Library). We still have several board positions and committee positions that are vacant. We are especially interested in finding someone to fill the VP of Fundraising and VP of Academic Enrichment roles. NO experience is required. The only thing you need is a willingness to help make the Rockwell community as strong, diverse, and supportive for all students as possible. Please email Mansi at schoolservices@rockwellpta.org if you would like to add your name to the list for any board or committee chair positions next year. Below is a list of committee positions we are hoping to fill for next tear.
  • Reflections Chair (this person helps organize the Reflections art contest that happen in October every year)
  • Welcome Back Coffee chair (this person helps to organize the welcome back coffee that happens in September)
  • STEAM night chair (this person helps to organize STEAM night, which generally takes place in January)
  • Math Challenge co-chair (these volunteers help to coordinate the year-long math challenge program that keeps all of our young leaners excited about Math!)
Field Day, June 8th

For the first time since 2019, we're able to host field day! This is a Rockwell tradition, and something the kids look forward to every year. This year it will take place from 9AM - 11AM. We need at least 40 parent volunteers to help make the event a success. We'll have dozens of different games and ourdoor stations set-up for the entire student population. We'll need volunteers willing to help at each station, as well as volunteers willing to come in starting at 8AM that morning to fill water balloons and help set-up.

If you're available to help, please email Sri at volunteering@normanrockwellpta.org
New Date for Heritage Nights!
May 26th, 5:30PM-7:30PM

Familes, your PTA is moving Heritage night to May 26th. Rather than hosting the event indoors at Redmond Highschool (as we've done in previous years), we're moving the event back to Rockwell as an outdoor event (given the recent uptick in Covid numbers). Heritage Night and the Ice Cream social are two longstanding Rockwell community events that we're excited to combine this year.
As always, these are free events, and all family members are encouraged to attend.
5th Grade Graduation Party Volunteers Needed!

We need volunteers to help with the "5th grade promotion" plans. Our current 5th graders will soon graduate from Rockwell Elementary Beagles to Redmond Middle school Grizzlies.

Covid put a profound strain on their elementary school experience. We need help as we plan a special graduation celebration for them. We need at least 3-4 volunteer parents (typically these are 4th grade parents, but we welcome anyone who is interested in helping to make this year's celebration). We'll need help as we plan the event, and then some logistical help on June 17th as we say goodbye to our 5th graders at a special ceremony that starts at 9AM.

Please email Denice at president@normanrockwellpta.org if you can help.
Math Challenge #15
Due by Thursday, May 19th

Math Challenge #15 is now available HERE.

This is the final Math Challenge for the school year. For this challenge, lucky prize winners will be randomly selected from qualified submissions. Please feel free to try more questions than the minimum required for your grade level in order to qualify. Grab some friends and family and work on the challenges together! Once your student completes the challenge, email their paper by the due date to mathchallenge@normanrockwellpta.org

The due date for Math Challenge #15 is Thursday, May 19th.

Looking for Volunteers!
Both of your Rockwell Math Challenge volunteers are moving on from Rockwell at the end of this year. A Math Challenge Chair person or Co-Chair are needed for next year. Training and resources are provided. Let us know if you are interested in keeping this great Rockwell enrichment program going.

Let the challenge begin!

The best part of volunteering in this position is to witness the community coming together to make a difference.
COVID Testing at LWSD Schools

There are various ways to get your child(ren) tested for COVID, courtesy of LWSD. Here's an easy way to decide which method is right for your child's situation (please note that the testing is for the current students only):

Is your child showing any cold-like symptoms (runny nose/congestion, sore throat, headache, fever, etc.)?
  • Drive-through testing sites at one of your neighborhood high schools: Assessment
  • Juanita High School: Tuesdays, 4:00PM - 7:00PM
  • Lake Washington High School: Wednesdays, 4:00PM - 7:00PM
  • Support Service Center: Wednesdays, 8:00AM - 12:00PM & 2:00PM - 6:00PM
  • Redmond High School: Thursdays, 4:00PM - 7:00PM

Is your child NOT showing any signs of illness and/or identified as a close contact of a confirmed COVID case? You have two options:
  • Onsite school PCR testing (if you have children at different schools, please sign them up at each school):
  • Technicians are at Rockwell once a week, on Wednesdays between 11:30AM - 12:30PM. Please follow the link and choose "Onsite School PCR Testing" in the middle of the page. Please remember to complete the online consent form. COVID-19 Testing - Lake Washington School District

PTA Service Awards Nomination Needed!

Each year, Norman Rockwell Elementary PTA recognizes volunteers and staff who have given outstanding service to our children and school community. We do this through five awards: the Heart of Rockwell, Dog Gone, Bow Wow, Golden Acorn and the Outstanding Educator Award.

Now is your chance to participate in the selection of our award recipients by nominating candidates for consideration by our awards committee. Please consider nominating anyone that has helped the staff, students, or the Rockwell community at large. There are many people that deserve this award so let's give them a chance to be recognized! Please fill out Rockwell PTA Service Award Nomination Form to nominate volunteers and staff now!
