Psalm 29:11 tells us, Let the Lord give strength to his people! Let the Lord bless his people with peace! This is the final verse of a psalm focusing on the Lord’s voice, which is always above all the other voices, and particularly is louder than any storm. No question, it’s been a bit stormy for many of us and no matter if our storms are individual or communal, we can rely and trust in the words of the Psalmist. The Lord gives strength to us and will bless us with peace. May we hold fast to this truth as we navigate the storms.
The Leadership Team met Wednesday afternoon and determined that it is best to wait for a return to in-person worship, with a hopeful date of February 7 to resume together in the gym and sanctuary. The numbers continue to trend in the wrong directions, and we believe through more vaccines becoming available over the course of the next few weeks, we will be safer waiting to return to in-person worship in February. Please know we are all desperate to get back in together once again, and we are equally desperate to do no harm. We encourage folks to pay attention to the helpful information being shared by our County and the hospital, as vaccines are being shared by both for community. Please be sure to see the information listed below for more details on how to receive a vaccination.
Last week, we recognize there were some glitches with the livestreaming, and Justin was quickly investigating all the angles to see what was going on. There was denial of services attack on Amazon webservers, which is used to host our livestream for both our Facebook and YouTube accounts. Thankfully it was resolved in time for the 11am worship. Thanks for your patience – and praying for us as we continue to do our best to offer online worship.
What a celebration this past Sunday in our virtual worship to seek God’s blessings upon the 150 Koala cards that are being distributed to the frontline folks at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Thanks for all of you who have faithfully supported this ministry and know we will happily receive any additional funds you’d like to share, so that we can continue to share more Koala Love with others.
Speaking of Cape Fear Valley, if you didn’t see or hear about our efforts to produce a small prayer book for them, let me tell you about it! From now until next Monday, January 18th, you have the opportunity to help our friends in the medical community find their hope in Christ by writing a prayer, sharing your favorite verse and what it means to you, a thank you message, or writing a short devotion that will be compiled in a booklet and made available to the staff at Cape Fear. Through a collaborative effort with our friends next door at First Baptist Church, we pray this booklet will be a hope-filled and uplifting resource for the staff at Cape Fear Valley. So pray and ask God what He is laying on your heart to share. Please be sure and send your submission to Rev. Lisa Craver (lcraver@nccumc.org). If you have any questions, please contact the church office (910-483-2343) and we'll be glad to assist.
Finally, friends, I share with you some incredible news from the Finance Committee’s meeting held Tuesday night. After reviewing the end of year financial report, we praise God for the good news of finishing the year in good shape financially, as we ended in the positive with $472.65! 2020 was certainly a challenging year, however, your faithfulness in giving and supporting the ministries and missions God calls us to share through Hay Street was simply amazing! We encourage you to continue your faithfulness in giving as we keep adapting and creating ways to extend ministry throughout the community. Thanks be to God for a remarkable achievement!
Grace and peace to you in the name of Jesus. Thank you for the prayers and striving to do no harm, as we rejoice in vaccines becoming available to more and more folks.
Youth are meeting on Sunday evenings to continue the series Jesus and Your Influence. More information is available on the Youth tab of our website, or by emailing programs@haystreetchurch.org.
