New Case Study: Cybersecurity for Campus Energy

From campus energy to university hospital systems, institusions of higher education rely on their on-campus critical infrastructure. Fend provides operators of these systems with both real-time utility monitoring and impenetrable security. For example, at a state university with some 500 buildings, Fend’s data diodes enable one-way data transmission, providing remote access to vital performance data while physically blocking cyberattacks on a decades-old campus heat plant. DoD Updates UFC 4-010-06, Recommends Use of Data Diodes

In its first update since 2016, the Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) for Cybersecurity Of Facility-Related Control Systems (FRCS) has been updated to include new strategies to defend OT systems in an evolving threat landscape facing managers of critical facilities across government. For the first time, this document includes an in-depth discussion on the use of data diodes to transmit data from FRCS in a physically-enforced, one-way fashion and compares the technology with other legacy approaches.

UFC documents provide planning, design, construction, sustainment, restoration, and modernization criteria, and apply to the Military Departments, the Defense Agencies, and the DoD Field Activities in accordance with DoD Directive 4270.5 and are effective upon issuance. Read the full text of UFC 4-010-06 here.
