NYC Real Estate Student Field Trip
On Thursday October 3rd, the Real Estate field trip to NYC went off without a hitch! Our students broke off into four different groups and toured Barings, Cushman and Wakefield, Haworth Company, Kroll Rating Agency, Nuveen, Partners Group, Real Capital Analytics, Situs, and Tushman Speyer.

At Barings Kelly Yates, Nasir Alamgir, Ryan LaRue, Shuvao Hussain and Stephen Klufas, shared their view on the world of real estate investments  high lighting current investment projects. 
Students  visited with Cushman & Wakefield where, Jared Thal, Mallika Winsor, Anthony D'Amelio, Kyle Ernest, and Jill Wormser  gave informative presentations based on their particular areas and some specific accomplishments this year.  
At the Haworth Company Amy Darrah, explained the  connection between her company services and providing adaptable and impeccably designed workplace furniture and decor  for the world of Corporate Real Estate.  
At Kroll Bond Rating Agency Keith Kockenmeister and Ravish Kamath presented students the interesting and ethically bond process of ratings.

Students got a unique look at the analytical side of the real estate industry at Real Capital Analytics. Rob White Founder and President of RCA explained the implications a nd application of the precision data his company produces. 
Mark Misto of Nuveen gave students a presentation highlighting the standards and practices that have allowed the company to thrive for 120 years. 
At Partners Group Ron Lamontagne, gave a great presentation underscoring the company's investment approach and the large network of professionals tha t fuels the company's growth. 
At SITUS RERC, Jennifer Lay ton, Frank Yanofsky, Kelly Johnson, Chris Walke r, and Bryan Patterson gave an informative presentation on the technological innovations taking place at the quickly growing valuation company. 


The students visited with  Tishman Speyer  where analysts  Chris, Aj and James, gave a presentation on some of Tishman's current developments in Hudson Yards and Long Island City.  The students were also given  a fascinating tour of Rockefeller Center and the underground connections to each of the buildings by property manager, Liana. 




This year's remarkable NYC visit gave our students valuable insight into nine incredible firms and the many different aspects of the real estate investments.  Without the commitment and generosity of our alumni, industry partners and friends, this trip would not have been possible.

Fall 2019 NYC Alumni & Friends Reception
On Thursday October 4, 2019,  nearly 100 alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends gathered for the Annual  Real Estate Center alumni event at the Kitano NY.

The two hour reception was filled with greetings and updates as Center Director, John Glascock introduced the newest Real Estate faculty member, Alex Van de Minne.  

Kris Kallenback, VP Business Development, of CATIC Title Insurance Company also shared a few words as the event sponsor.

Visitors in the Classroom
On Wednesday October 9, 2019,  Tina Brockett, Esquire, Assistant General Counsel, CHFA, and Chris Galves, Manager, Single Family Underwriting Mortgage, CHFA, presented in Fred Cover's Real Estate Principles class.  

Chris talked about credit scoring and underwriting of single housing using Freddie and Fannie automated underwriting systems. Tina discussed pitfalls and concerns of acquiring real estate properties without the advice of legal counsel, in the context of first time home buyers.

RE Society Presentations
On Wednesday October 9, 2019, John Monaco from NVC, National Valuation Consultants, Inc. presented at the Real Estate Society meeting about the world of valuation. 

John conveyed the crucial fundamentals in appraisal and valuation of property and how it leads to all other processes in investment. John also, emphasized learning markets and the importance of  understanding how different markets  might be valued. 

The visit provided our students a greater appreciation for valuation and appraisal and the fundamentals behind this important aspect of the commercial real estate industry. 

RE Society Presentations
On Wednesday October 16, 2019 Mike Riccio, Executive Managing Director, Anna Pfau, Senior Production Analyst, and Susan Larkin, Vice President Debt and Equity Finance, visited with us from CBRE, Hartford.  

They presented at the Real Estate Society meeting about CBRE as a whole, the institutional service work they conduct, and real estate from the broker point of view. It gave our students a great understanding of what brokerage and real estate services entail and the importance of relationships in real estate, and how each relationship may influences future services and deals. 
2019 Student Placement
The Center for Real Estate and Urban Economic Studies is assisting students to find full-time or internship placement for 2020. Real estate students are in the process of completing what many consider to be one of the best academic real estate programs in the country. 

To date 2020 student full-time and internship placement real estate firms include the following:  Liberty Bank, and  Newmark Knight  and  Frank, with numerous others in the pipeline.

 2019 - 2020 Calendar 
Fall 2019 Real Estate Society Events -  The Real Estate Society meeting are scheduled for every Wednesday, 6:00 PM Busn room 214.  The Society will hold several social/networking events throughout the semester. Students should watch for emails from the Real Estate Society for details. In-classroom professional speaker events are currently being scheduled.

Spring 2020
February 16, 2020 - Men's Basketball Real Estate Event. 1:00 pm pre-game luncheon followed by the UConn vs. Memphis basketball game Details and registration to follow.
