Labor Day Weekend Safety
The last summer holiday is upon us and with that comes hours of fun in the sun and water as we enjoy Labor Day weekend. Whether you spend the time fishing, boating, paddle boarding or at the pool, the Lake Travis area offers an abundance of recreational activities.

If you're hitting Lake Travis, here are some important safety tips you should keep in mind:

  • Always supervise your children in and around water.
  • Wear a life jacket: All children under age 13 are required by law to wear a life jacket while on a boat.
  • Never swim alone.
  • Look before you leap: If you are jumping from a boat or jumping in from the shore, inspect the water for debris and people.
  • Stay hydrated: Swimming and sunshine can wear you out. Drink plenty of cold, fresh water throughout the day.
  • Don't drink and drive: Whether on a boat or in a car, think before getting behind the wheel.

Additionally, Lakeway police officers will be out on increased patrols this weekend making sure residents and guests are enjoying the holiday weekend safely. Don't forget to buckle up on area roadways.

The City of Lakeway wishes you a relaxing and safe Labor Day weekend!
City Council Votes To Maintain Tax Rate
At Monday afternoon’s Special City Council meeting (August 26, 2019), Councilmembers voted unanimously to propose a tax rate of 0.1645, which is the same tax rate as 2018. The average home value in 2019 in Lakeway is $550,296, which would mean the average property tax bill under the proposed tax rate would be approximately $905 per home. The average homeowner will pay about $38 per year more under the proposed tax rate due to an increase in Lakeway home values. Two public hearings are scheduled in the next couple of weeks before the final tax rate and budget are approved the end of September.

More details available on the City News page.

NEW: City Council Approves Revisions to Building Regulations

City Council unanimously voted to approve revisions to Chapter 24 of the City of Lakeway’s Code of Ordinances (Code) at this past Monday’s Special City Council Meeting (August 26, 2019). This chapter of the Code focuses largely on building regulations as it relates mainly to residential structures. The revisions were initiated due to a new state law. During the 2019/2020 session of the Texas Legislature, HB 2439 was passed by legislators. The new law prohibits or limits the city’s regulation authority over the use or installation of a building product or material of a residential or commercial building. While the revisions are a requirement, the City of Lakeway also made changes that will simplify the rules and promote consistency throughout all of the city’s Code of Ordinances.
