January 11, 2021
Dear Friends and Neighbors:
Houston is beginning to administer its limited supply of COVID-19 vaccines to those who fall under category 1A (hospital workers, nursing home staff, EMS workers, residents of long-term care facilities, etc.) or category 1B (people 65 and over and those with chronic medical conditions) according to the guidelines by the State of Texas.

Houston's vaccine clinic's appointments are booked for the rest of the month, but as the city receives more supplies, more appointments will be scheduled. Once the city receives more vaccines, a mega-site will be set up that will facilitate 5,0000 vaccinations in a single day. You can find more information about the vaccination process on the Houston Emergency Management website.

It's important to note that after the initial vaccination, you will be scheduled for a second dose one month out - as both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines require two doses for full efficacy.

There are other vaccine providers but supplies are limited everywhere. Check out the Texas COVID-19 Vaccine Provider Location Map but be sure to call ahead to see if a supply is available. Larger healthcare providers might also have their own supply of vaccines. As vaccine availability increases in 2021 and more people become eligible, residents will be able to get vaccinated at doctor’s offices, pharmacies, hospitals, and other sites.

To find out when more city appointments are available, be sure to sign up for CitizensNet's emails. Make sure you select "Health" as one of the emails you would like to receive. Also follow be sure to follow the Houston Health Department on Twitter and Facebook.
Sincerely,

Greg Travis
