2018 Summer Internship Highlight

Over the summer, Kristina Kasper and Devin Pallanck have been working at the UConn Center for Real Estate and Urban Economic Studies as Student Research and Administrative Assistants.  The majority of their time is spent conducting research for Dr. Jeffrey Cohen.  They analyze warranty deeds for properties and collect data on each deed based on specific criteria.  They then organize this information into various spreadsheets for Dr. Cohen to utilize in his research.

Devin and Kristina also assist with the daily functions of the Real Estate Center.  They assist the Real Estate Administrative Coordinator, prepare for the fall semester by updating student records, answering phones, sending emails and much more.

Kristina and Devin are both grateful for their experience working at the Center for Real Estate.  Their time working closely with Debbie, Dr. Cohen, Dr. Glascock and other School of Business faculty has been very valuable as they gained exposure to specific housing markets and are comfortable analyzing documents.  The center has offered a welcoming and professional learning environment that Kristina and Devin enjoy being apart of.  They look forward to their remaining time working at the UConn Center for Real Estate.
2018 Summer Internship Highlight

This summer Jake Brassard had the opportunity to work with Cigna Investment Management and more specifically with UConn alumni Brian Smith who is Associate Managing Director of Equity Asset Management.   Jake also had the opportunity to work  with many other alumni including Paul Champagne, Head of Equity Asset Management.  Cigna Investment Management oversees a large and diversified portfolio of fixed income, real estate, and alternative investments. The Cigna Realty Investors group is responsible for the origination and asset management of debt, equity, and real estate fund investment opportunities.

During the summer Jake was involved with asset management projects including leasing, valuations using Argus, property insurance and dispositions. The project that he is  most proud of was the analysis of a potential sale for an Orange County, CA office building, and the calculation of expected returns. This analysis was used by his manager and partners as the beginning of a process that will continue after his internship ends. Throughout the summer Jake also had the opportunity to experience and learn the underwriting process of both debt and equity investments with the originations team. Additionally, he worked to evaluate a couple of real estate fund investment opportunities.

Finally, Jake worked with the debt asset management team to evaluate borrower requests, and wrote recommendations for managers. He had the opportunity to presented the work he had completed to the entire investment group . Working with the other interns, including current finance student Pat Patrell and students from other colleges,  Jake states "we organized a week long fundraiser that raised $1,800 for Habitat for Humanity. We will also be participating in a build day at a Habitat site, which we were really excited about".
