Registration is Now Open for the 2021 Virtual NCAVA Conference, September 29th-30th! Having cancelled last year's spring conference entirely due to COVID, the North Carolina Association of Volunteer Administrators (NCAVA) will be hosting a virtual event this year, over the course of two consecutive afternoons. After a year of constant change, they are inviting all volunteer managers to join them and to “Reignite the Spark” in the profession. They have 18 presenters lined up to discuss all matters of volunteer management over these two days. Spoiler alert: one of the featured speakers is our network's own Andy Hagler from the Mental Health Association! The NCAVA Statewide Conference on Volunteer Management is open to both members and non-members of NCAVA, whether within or outside of North Carolina. Neighbors for Better Neighborhoods Offering Micro-Grants for Resident-Led Grassroots Projects! Our friends at NBN have started to accept proposals for micro-grassroots grants ($100-$5,000) for resident-led community building projects. The funds come from a combination of private foundations, corporate sponsors, and individual donations. The goal is to provide access to funds for residents of the neighborhoods that NBN serves so that they can implement a variety of community-enhancing projects. Are You a Grassroots Group Interested in Redistricting Work? Please Let Us Know! With the final Census data being released this week, our friends at the NC Counts Coalition have reached out to us here at HandsOn to see if there is enough interest to hold a Triad-based virtual training series that would equip small, grassroots nonprofits with the information needed to provide effective, strategic communication to stakeholders, information about redrawing electoral maps, and how to best participate in public hearings. This three-part series would take place over the course of three evenings in a single week and would be offered in both English and Spanish. They'd like to know if at least five organizations are interested before moving forward. If your organization may be one of them, please let us know!

Complete Novant Health's Forsyth Community Health Needs Assessment Survey--and Share it with Your Networks! Novant Health conducts a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) every three years as part of their compliance with the Affordable Care Act. This is a voluntary and anonymous survey conducted in partnership with local community groups, health departments and hospitals. The results of this survey will help Novant Health understand the prioritized needs of Forsyth County residents, especially following the COVID-19 pandemic. They will use what they learn to plan education, access, and investments to address the most urgent needs. The voluntary survey will be open from August 2 – 27. It will take less than 5 minutes to complete and is completely anonymous: you will not be asked for your name and the name of the person taking the survey can never be connected to the survey results. The National Council of Nonprofits and the Federal Reserve are partnering on a nation-wide survey to create a comprehensive picture of the effects of the pandemic on nonprofits and the communities we serve. The results will help inform policymakers at every level of government about the challenges nonprofits have faced during the pandemic and can help nonprofit organizations advocate for further relief.

HandsOn NWNC, Program Coordinator This new position plays an important role as a member of our small team, as we all work to mobilize people and organizations that inspire community change in Forsyth, Davidson, Davie, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin Counties. HandsOn NWNC develops and delivers a wide variety of programming that fills the needs of its diverse constituents, including nonprofits, businesses, civic groups, schools, and community volunteers. The Program Coordinator works closely with the Program Director to plan and implement capacity building training and programming that is delivered to nonprofits throughout our six county region. This position will serve as a coordinator for all of our training programs with a focus on capacity building programs for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) nonprofit leaders and the organizations and communities they serve. Keleideum, Multiple Positions Kaleideum, a HandsOn Supporting Partner, has multiple full-time and part-time positions available. Some key positions include the Manager of Community Outreach, who is the person who manages their volunteer program, overnight camp-ins, Scout programs, and community-based outreach and collaborations. These experiences help Kaleideum further their mission and revenue-based goals through strong guest engagement, budget management, communication, team management, and program development and facilitation. The successful candidate will be flexible, resilient, insightful, innovative, accountable, and relationship-driven with a desire to learn new things and remain current on successful community engagement strategies. The candidate will be tasked with building an extensive and robust volunteer program that encompasses a wide range of ages and skill sets to establish Kaleideum as a well-integrated community partner. The other full-time position is the Manager of Learning, and is the person that oversees education program creation and delivery at Kaleideum, creating a strategy for continued support of formal and informal education through all learning methods, and builds and leverages relationships to create strong ties and connections with school systems and formal educators in our local community and region. This position is critical to Kaleideum as they strive to determine how the museum will continue to support teachers, classrooms, schools, and student learning needs moving forward in a post-Covid-19 environment. The Manager of Learning is also responsible for implementing Invention Convention Kaleideum in collaboration with the Senior Director of Learning + Engagement. Invention Convention Kaleideum, with start-up support from Collins Aerospace, is part of their museum-wide Prism Initiative funded by the L. David Mounts Foundation.
