On March 27th our students had the incredible
opportunity to compete internationally on a development deal based in Toronto, Ontario. The team, comprised of both juniors and seniors, were given a parcel of land in West Toronto and asked to create a development that would enrich the area as well as deliver impressive returns to the investors.

The team had approximately six weeks to complete the market research, due diligence, underwriting, and the physical development. The competition consisted of a 15 minute presentation followed by a 10 minute Q&A. The students created an impressive deal which they were proud to pitch to the Canadian professionals that stood in as judges.

Special thanks to Barings Real Estate Advisers (formerly know as Cornerstone) for making this experience possible.

Argus Enterprise Case Study Competition
In addition to the training that the real estate center offers each winter, a team of five students also participated in an Argus Enterprise case study competition. This competition gave undergraduate, masters, and PH.D. students the opportunity to navigate the newest Argus software and create a recommendation as to what to do with a portfolio of three properties.

Each team was given six weeks to underwrite each portfolio of properties, analyze the data, and give a final write up of the findings to the investors.

On Wednesday, April 12, Josh Genn and Steve Rodgers from Toll Brothers attended a dinner

with students from the UConn Real Estate Society to discuss their company and meet with  potential candidates. Afterwards, they made a presentation to Professor Cover's Real Estate Principles class. Students appreciated the opportunity to learn more about a development company, especially as they prepare to enter the commercial real estate field and consider their career options. The Center for Real Estate would like to thank Toll Brothers for its continued support of our program.
