On July 31-August 2, members of our team joined Habitat affiliates from across Texas for a three-day conference to learn about nonprofit best practices to help adapt and thrive in an ever-changing environment. The Lone Star Summit features different break-out sessions, in addition to an opening reception, keynote speeches, networking opportunities, and more.
We were honored that our very own Executive Director, Lora Blakeslee Atkinson, received the 2023 Mary Ruth Rhodenbaugh Outstanding Staff Award at the Lone Star Summit this year. She was chosen for this award out of all the Habitat affiliate staff members across Texas! We are grateful for the recognition of her leadership, talent, and passion for helping families in our community build places to call home.
After learning practical skills from other affiliates and being inspired by Habitat's amazing mission, we are more equipped than ever to build homes, community, and hope right here in Denton County.

As many as 35 new affordable homes will be built alongside local families in need via this development. This project involves developing the infrastructure of this neighborhood, including the streets, sidewalks, utilities, proper drainage requirements, and everything else needed to support a neighborhood of 35 homes.
