My advice for future supply chain students is to utilize your resources! Take advantage of the opportunities USF provides. Don't be stressed about making it to every single event, but just know that the first step to reaching success is simply showing up! Also, remember that the faculty and professors are here for your success. If you have a goal, question, struggle, or request, then talk to someone! It never hurts to ask.

Be involved during your time as a supply chain student. Take advantage of all supply chain events and put yourself out there. I recommend students join CSCMP and highly encourage them to become executive board members.

I am looking forward to starting my career here in manufacturing, as I will be learning different roles such as training as a buyer and a planner. As I continue as a supply chain professional, I will continue to get certified in my field to be able to perform the best I can in my career.
Florida Supply Chain Summit 2022
March 21-23, 2022
5303 W. Kennedy Blvd.
Mission
The mission of the Florida Supply Chain Summit is to provide a platform for statewide collaboration among key representatives from industry, professional organizations, government, economic development agencies, and higher education for the purpose of advancing the state of Florida as a global trade hub.
Vision
The Florida Supply Chain Summit facilitates and strengthens partnerships in the trade and logistics industry by providing opportunities to network, address industry issues, and share knowledge about critical issues including emerging trends, technology innovations, and workforce development.
Proposal – Value Proposition to the State of Florida
• Statewide industry/government/academic network engagement
• Industry discussions and topics on supply chain disruptions
• Dedicated, sustainable staff and resources for the statewide initiative
Summit History
In early 2019 we hosted several hundred attendees at Disney’s Contemporary Resort at the inaugural summit. (See attached program in the email.) The pandemic hit in 2020 and this March the 2nd Summit was held virtually. We are delighted to bring the Summit back “in person” in March 2022 in Tampa!
Summit Planning
A state-wide steering committee engages key stakeholders and decision-makers. This working group determines key messages and topics for the 2022 summit. The aim is to develop an attractive platform that enables collaboration among representatives from Florida’s key industries, professional organizations, economic development agencies, government officials, and higher education institutions.

Meet the Employer Event
The Ozkul Report
Seckin Ozkul, the director of the Supply Chain Innovation Lab, was recently interviewed by ABC’s Action News regarding the added benefit of living in the Sunshine State during the pandemic.

What is the price being paid for the pandemic?
Mom and pop businesses did not expect their price of lettuce to shoot up from $25 to $80. Nor did they expect to have to drive 70 miles and rent a refrigerated truck, just to keep the doors open and employees paid. Unfortunately, this has been the reality for many other small businesses across the country. One owner had stated, “It is the worst change I have ever seen," while another expressed, “It’s more difficult to get trucks in here.”

Have you seen your gas prices go up?
Ozkul explains, "They are projecting that oil prices are going to get worse before they get better.” This is mostly due to the bullwhip effect. According to the article, economists are predicting prices will remain high through the summer.

Why is Florida the best place to be?
Michael Rubin, President, and CEO of the Florida Ports Council explained that the backups and labor issues at the ports of California are being met with growing East Coast ports. Due to this, the number of “ships bypassing California and heading for Florida is on the rise.” The Port of Tampa has increased the number of containers coming in year over year by 30% and, according to Rubin, the jobs around the port are averaging $55,000 or more.

Omicron and the supply chain
Ozkul spoke with ABC’s Action News to discuss the new variant and how it may ripple through the supply chain. He mentions the two most important factors are “determining how quickly the new variant spreads and how it reacts to current vaccines and boosters.” He also emphasizes how crucial it is that people avoid panic buying to curb the supply chain effect. With labor issues already looming, will the labor market fear possible workplace transmission? To find out more, click here.

Philanthropic Donations Fuel Supply Chain Education
Our program provides student scholarships – more than $5,000 this year alone (covering tuition and textbooks) went to our diverse student population. We hope to increase this to $50,000 over the next three to five years. We provide innovative learning, teaching, and technology tools for the interactive classroom, preparing students for immediate immersion into jobs upon graduation.

Our students graduate with demonstratable skills in ERP (SAP), WMS (Datex), TMS (Mercury Gate), Supply Chain/Business Analytics (Tableau), and Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt/MS Supply Chain program) to name a few.

This does not happen in a vacuum. We must have the support of our faithful business and industry partners to ensure success for our students. This past year, our program supported five students with scholarships through the generosity of our business partners and the amazing gift from Monica Wooden.

The cost of high-tech innovative education is exorbitant, and this may stand in the way of some financially challenged students who find it difficult to meet tuition expectations. Our students are diverse, and this is important to our business partners, many of whom offer internships or work experiential opportunities for students throughout the year. This contributes to the 92 percent who graduate within four years, with an average 3.4 GPA.

Philanthropic donations shoulder the burden of the good work we do here. All the money received from donations goes directly to student scholarships, student/faculty research, industry-partner engagement, and innovative education. Please help us help our students.
