On Our Radar For November 2021 Convocation

As part of IHN’s Program Advising, about six months out from convocation, we hold a Graduation Eligibility Meeting (GEM). We shifted the in-person appointment to accommodate the current landscape and those studying online, to a 20 minute one-on-one phone call between a campus Program Advisor and every graduating student. The GEM is a chance to review where the student is at in their studies and what they may still need to complete. We get feedback on the student's experience with the program, field trips, and ask them to offer us their top three courses and instructors. That usually ends up being a list of five (and in tiny print to fit them all on the page) with a comment that "it was too hard to choose!" IHN considers valuable insight to continue to grow and enhance our program.

What students expect to gain from their Co-op placement is discussed, as well as an outline of their dream job/career. Their previous and current work experience/career, their existing academics, and the designations they hold are noted in IHN's Master graduate database. The database is explored when we seek instructors, speakers and initiative partners. Finally, we share both the bookish and boisterous elements that will take place in the upcoming, full day, Graduation Workshop. It's a comprehensive post-studies presentation, and interactive engagement, that begins the transition to level up from the classroom to the professional space. Students emerge from IHN, ready to move in the direction of their passion; to augment their knowledge base; to build out their niche; and to become leaders in the field of holistic nutrition. IHN's alumni and industry peers welcome new colleagues to support a brighter future.

Students Decompress Into Spring

A year ago today, this week held a very different frequency at IHN. We were simply told to close our campuses. After a momentary collapse of reality, a strategy emerged. It took IHN's IT team, administration and management, working around the clock, for the entire March Break week, to set up the transition from in-class to online learning. Over the year, we succeeded in holding continuity for our current in-class students (who are waiting patiently to return to campus) and reaching distance students by having IHN take shape in the new online space. We are thrilled to see our diploma program in Applied Holistic Nutrition go global! We are equally thrilled to see our in-class students return to the classroom on the horizon. In 2020, we learned a lot, and confirmed a lot, through the trusted experts in our field. The understanding between our health and the environment held firm, while we took necessary steps mandated by our authorities. Kudos to all holistic nutrition private career colleges who pushed through their own barriers to continue our collective, worldwide, education.

All campuses and administrative offices are closed from Monday March 15 to Friday March 19, 2021.

All emails will be responded to the week after we return. Please be patient as we work through all of our correspondence. Please be assured that we have your email and you are on our list to contact!
Humans Are Capable of Short-Term Precognition

Ever get a vision, or a gut feeling, of an event seconds before it actually happens? Scientists have been studying “remote viewing”, a phenomenon that examines humans' ability to predict future events 1-10 seconds before they occur. In a May 31, 2020 Collective Viewing article (6 minute read), “Our Body Responds to Events Before They Even Happen”, Dr. Rollin McCraty explains the process. “It is first registered from the heart, then up to the brain (emotional and prefrontal cortex), where we can logically relate what we are intuiting, then finally down to the gut (or where something stirs).”

Although the name suggests otherwise, buckwheat is not a type of wheat or grain. It’s a gluten-free fruit seed that’s related to rhubarb and sorrel. Buckwheat is a good source of manganese, magnesium, copper, and zinc, which supports a healthy immune system. It contains all eight essential amino acids–particularly rich in lysine. Lysine is essential for the formation of collagen and may reduce anxiety by blocking stress response receptors. Its high fibre content maintains regular blood glucose levels, which results in improved mood and increased energy. Try this Buckwheat Granola recipe from IHN graduate Laurence Annez
