Poetry Workshop w/ Ashlee Haze

Come listen to CAB's poetry workshop, part of their Women's History Month Celebration, where poet Ashlee Haze addresses boy image and teaches students how to write “petty poetry” as a tool to process anger, grief, jealousy, and bitterness through poetry.

Students will learn how to express these emotions in a healthy format and have the opportunity to write their own petty poems.

Hear from John Bazyk, emeritus faculty, and Rachel Rogers, graduate of CSU's Occupational Therapy program, as they present their work from teaching the service-learning course (OTH 511/OTH 750).

The presentation will address the continually growing refugee crisis in the world and the U.S., cover some of the overwhelming issues refugees to the U.S. face, describe the program designed and implemented in the CSU OT Program to address these issues, and raise some of the future needs for ongoing programming.

News You Can Use
First Year Experience (FYE) at Cleveland State University is looking to hire Peer Mentors for the 2021-2022 Academic Year. The FYE Peer Mentor serves as a guide to support and provide academic assistance to first year students at Cleveland State University. The Peer Mentor serves as an integral part of the First Year Experience Seminar - Introduction to University Life (ASC 101) and the first-year student acclimation to campus life.

Each Peer Mentor assists students in developing their knowledge, learning new skills and bolstering their confidence to become independent learners with high academic performance. The Peer Mentor works closely with the instructor in planning and preparation for the course, attends each class, assists students in transitioning to Cleveland State University, as well as coordinates multiple out-of-class activities.

Peer Mentors are compensated for working up to 10 hours per week at $10.00 per hour. Applications are due by 11:59pm Sunday, March 28, 2021. First round interviews (30 minute time-slots) will take place February 24, 2021- April 8, 2021, which you will get the link to sign up for once your application has been reviewed. The deadline for budget requests for Hearing 5 has been extended to SUNDAY, March 21 at 11:59. Please refer to the Funding Quick Guide on SGA's VikesConnect page for more information on how to submit a request, and which kinds of requests are allowed under COVID-19 restrictions. Hearing 5 will be held on March 26th with approval on April 2nd.

Viking Expeditions (VE) is a student-led service organization at Cleveland State University (CSU). Viking Expeditions offers domestic and international Alternative Break Trips, provides a variety of local service opportunities each month, fosters student leadership, and serves as the umbrella funding organization for service-oriented events coordinated by CSU’s student organizations.

Each year, it is the goal of the Executive Board to give students valuable life experiences to expand their worldview through leadership and service. VE seeks to foster lifelong friendships and a lifelong commitment to service, while also meeting the needs of the global community.

RELAUNCH: In-Person Fitness Classes!
After a year of disruptions and closures, the CSU Recreation Center is EXCITED to welcome CSU students back for in-person group fitness classes! Beginning March 22nd, you can enjoy some of your favorite fitness classes with other health-conscious, active students at the Rec Center. They'll have a variety of fitness formats to choose from – including strength, cardio, conditioning, and mind/body – in our usual fun and motivating atmosphere.

Plus, they've established a variety of new health practices and safety precautions so you can focus on exercising and get the most out of class.

Starting in April, the CSU PRISUM (Prevention education and Resource strategies for Intimate partner and Sexual violence in Under represented gender/sexual Minorities) Conference is a Sexual Assault Awareness month educational collaboration with campus and community partners addressing sexual and interpersonal violence prevention and education in underserved sexual and gender minorities.

The goals of PRISM is to provide education that will impact understanding of sexual and interpersonal violence in sexual and gender minorities and to deliver skills and strategies that empower caring responses that are trauma informed and culturally competent when incidents do occur.
