Henslee Hall Adult Formation
OUR MONEY STORY
Continues
9:30 am - Henslee Hall
Join us on Sundays, October 15, 22, 29, and November 12, as Mother, Elizabeth, Father Cal, and others facilitate "Our Money Story: Remember - Release - Reimagine - Restore." Stewardship Season and the Capital Campaign offer us an opportunity "to discover and tell our money stories in light of God’s money story of
liberation and justice." Our children and youth will also follow this series for part of November as we are all encouraged to "transform our stewardship practices into more full expressions of who we are and what we believe. . . Money and possessions are one of the most common topics in scripture, and Jesus talked about
money more than faith and prayer. Our money story, therefore, is a spiritual story."

Holy Ghost Weenie Roast &
Trunk or Treat
Sunday, October 29
Join us on Sunday October 29th for a festive day of fun! 11:45-1 pm. Parishioners are invited to wear a fun costume or festive outfit to church, whether or not you are attending trunk or treat! There will be a costume blessing during the service. We will gather after the 10:30 service for trunk or treat with games and activities, as well as a Holy Ghost Weenie Roast (hot dog lunch)! Parishioners of all ages are invited to join the fun. Trunks will be setup in the back lot, behind the chapel, complete with games, treats and more!
Want to Host a Trunk for
the Trunk or Treat - or Help with Games
and Activities?
If you would like to host a trunk, help with games and activities or help out in another way, please contact Erin Keck at [email protected] or Sinead Doherty at [email protected]. We look forward to a day of fun, fellowship, and lots and lots of candy with our Good Sam family!

Good Sam Candy Tithe
November 5 &12
All of our children gather way more candy than they really need, right? So why not share? On November 5&12, children may bring 10% of their Halloween candy to Good Sam. We'll have a collection box in a visible place for children to put their Candy Tithe.
Then, on November 12, those donations will be brought forward for a blessing during the service. Their candy will go to a worthy cause TBD.
This is an excellent opportunity to help our children learn the joy of giving back and to teach them about tithing. Thank you for your gracious generosity.

Good Sam Hike to Mt. LeConte!
June 15 & 16, 2024
Good Sam Hikers will be excited to know that we’re headed back to Mt. LeConte this coming summer, June 15 & 16, 2024.
Mark your calendars if you are interested and look for sign-up/reservation information in the new year! This is a long standing summer tradition at Good Sam, going back to at least 1986. We missed this past summer - but we’re headed back! Open to individuals and families alike!

Good Sam Book Group
November 2
6:00 pm
The next Book Club meeting will be on Thursday, November 2, at 6:00 PM in Henslee Hall. As always, please bring what you'd like to eat and drink with you!
In November we are reading The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell by Robert Dugoni. Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called "Devil Boy" or Sam "Hell" by his classmates; "God's will" is what his mother called his ocular albinism. He was buoyed by his mother's faith, his father's practical wisdom, and his two other misfit friends. A tragedy during his school years uprooted every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls, causing him to turn his back on his friends, his hometown, and the life he'd always known. Forty years later, as he looks back on his life, Sam embarks on a journey that will take him halfway around the world. This time, his eyes are wide open - bringing into clear view what changed him, defined him, and made him so afraid, until he can finally see what truly matters.
If you have any questions, please contact Kathy Gray at [email protected] or 423-379-0091.
Future Selections:
-
December: The Secret Book of Flora Lea by Patti Callaway Henry
-
January: Joy for Beginners by Erica Baumeister
-
February: Cooking for Picasso by Camille Aubray in February.

Cash in the Plate
The Cash In The Plate for this coming Sunday goes to Helping Mamas Knoxville.
With nearly 10,000 clients, Helping Mamas Knoxville is an organization that collects and distributes essential items to new mothers and mothers to be in the Knoxville area, who require assistance at this special time. Over 425,000 essential items have been distributed, including diapers, baby clothes, formula, and car seats. These donated items, and the over 1400 volunteer hours during 2022-23 allow clients to focus on job training, parenting education and violence prevention. The long term goals are to ensure support and stability to the families served by Helping Mamas. Your donation will augment donated supplies that our youth are gathering.
You can make an online cash plate gift to the cash in the plate on the Good Sam online giving page. There is an option on the giving page to give to the "Cash in Plate". As always, you may also send a check to Good Samaritan. Please put "Helping Mamas" in the memo line.
