“A new command I give you: Love one another.
As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”
John 13:34

He is chubby, furry, and the most popular weatherman, weatheranimal, on earth. His name is Punxsutawney Phil. His duty is predicting the weather. Tradition has it that if the furry creature sees his shadow and dives back into his hole, winter will last another six weeks.

The furry creature became famous in the movie “Groundhog Day” starring Bill Murray who plays a weatherman, Phil, who is stuck on the same routine, on the same day, in the same month- you guessed it, February 2nd. Phil, the human, is haunted by the reality that nothing ever changes in his life until he learns to love.

Jesus says we are to do the same, we are to love. He doesn’t ask, he commands us to “Love each other.” John says we love because Christ first loved us. (1 John 4:19) Since our identity is in Christ, the Apostle Paul says we are a “new creation” and “the old has passed away and the new has come.” The same old, same old routine of selfishness, lust, bitterness, greed, and anger is gone because Christ lives in us. Our sins are washed away, and we are free to love. Who can we surprise today by loving them? Today is a new day, a new start, a new beginning. No more same old, same old….you might just find the routine of the day is shattered by the love you show others.

Jesus said, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

See you Sunday as we ponder our identity in Jesus. I can't wait!
9th Annual Snowshoe for Peru 5k will take place on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 10am at Sylvan Lake State Park!
Registration is $35 for in-person and virtual participants at snowshoeforperu.com
Event helps provide safety, education and hope to the youth of Peru involved with Corazon de Esperanza!
Join us on Sunday, February 13th for our annual Ti Amo Lunch! After second service, at 11:45 a soup and chili lunch will be provided by church as we gather in fellowship to celebrate love!
The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
