Grand Knight’s Report
Worthy Brother Knights,

January was another one of our now usual, busy months with three events.

Our January Family Breakfast was held on the second Sunday to get it out of New Year’s weekend. What looked like a light turnout turned out not to be, and we were able to donate $685 to the RCIA Ministry. This was also our Brother PGK Hugh Gardiner’s last time as Breakfast Chairman. Brian Hanley is taking over for Hugh. Hugh will be around helping Brian for a little while longer, but it’s now Brian’s show. A big thank you to Hugh for all his years of service and all the charitable contributions his dedication has generated.

Our largest event of the month was the January State Deputy Meeting. Over 100 Knights attended the meeting in Reynolds Hall. 7923 has now hosted both of this fraternal year’s State Deputy Meetings, and they have both been tremendous successes due to the hard work of 7923 Brothers. We received many compliments from State Officers on how well 7923 prepares for these meetings. No surprise then, 7923 has been selected to host the next State Deputy Meeting on July 16.

Also, of particular note regarding the State Deputy Meeting, were the complements I received on how impressed everyone was by Father Sunny coming in and his words of gratitude and encouragement for KofC. We at SJN are truly blessed to have a Pastor who is so supportive of our Order.
Our third January event was our Council 40th Anniversary Celebration held Saturday the 29th. For those who attended it was a great time  The food, band, and most of all the fellowship were great. It was celebration to remember.

In February we have our Family Breakfast that will benefit Servants of Christ Ministry and our Super Bowl Pulled Pork take-out. The smoker is always favorite, so come out and support this event.

We all know as we approach March that Lent is just around the corner. Ash Wednesday is March 2, and our first Fish Fry is March 4. We are going back to dine-in meals in Reynolds Hall for the Fish Fry’s this year, and so we are going to need a lot more help than we did last year with drive-thru. PGK Mike MacFarlane is our event chairman. Mike will be putting out signup emails soon. With six Fridays and numerous jobs to fill, we need everyone to step up and help on these.

Lastly, I end on a somber note. In January we lost Sir Knight Tom Frizzi, PGK, FDD, FDM. Many of you knew Tom much longer and better than I did. To a man, everyone who speaks of him says what a fine man who espoused all the principles of our Order. He never shied away from service as evidenced by his many leadership positions and involvement in programs. He will be missed, but we take joy in knowing he has been welcomed to his final reward. We can all take Tom as a Brother to be emulated.

Vivat Jesus,

Glenn Klein

Council's 40th Birthday
Thank you to all of you who put together a fantastic 40th Anniversary Celebration. It will be a celebration to be remembered. The hors d’oeuvres alone were worth coming for. The new bar is really classy; and the (K)Night(s) cake was delicious (ask someone who was there). State Deputy Jim Clifford and his wife were able to join us, and best of all there was a lot of great fellowship and Council pride on display.

Lecturer's Reflections

BK David Werve read an excerpt about “Our Confidence in God” this came from St. Francis de Sales. Please read the excerpt below.

“Our confidence in God must be founded on His infinite goodness and on the merits of the Passion and Death of our Lord Jesus Christ, with this condition on our part: that we should preserve and recognize in ourselves an entire and firm resolution to belong wholly to God, and to abandon ourselves in all things, and without any reserve, to His Providence. Observe that I do not say that we must feel this resolution to belong wholly to God, but only that we must have it and recognize it in ourselves; we must not concern ourselves with what we feel or do not feel, since the greater part of our feelings and satisfactions are only the movements of self-love. Neither must it be supposed that in all this practice of abandonment and indifference, we shall never have desires contrary to the will of God, or that nature will never shrink with repugnance from the dispositions of His good pleasure, for these will often occur. The virtues of abandonment and indifference reside in the higher region of our soul; the lower region, generally speaking, has nothing to do with them. We must remain at peace, and paying no attention whatever to what that lower nature desires, we must embrace the divine will and unite ourselves to it—whatsoever this may entail. There are very few persons who reach this height of perfect self-renunciation; nevertheless, we must all aim at it, each according to his little measure.”
— St. Francis de Sales, p. 22-23
