Spring Break is here and we want to remind you to practice self-care over the next week to help you prepare for the 'sprint' which is the end of the semester. As this year has been different than most, we are so proud to have you on our team and helping us lead the way in Wisconsin.
But, let us ask you this: How are you doing? How are you really doing?
A. I'm barely hanging in there
B. Maintaining/Okay
C. I'm doing well
Penny Lyter asked these same questions during the November 9, 2020 Monday Update and we want to check back in with you.
Penny offers some advice to us: "Try reframing your thoughts to 'restoring' your health and well-being instead of 'accomplishing' or 'achieving' wellness. It is okay to take time out for you, to just sit with yourself and your thoughts (be mindful), and to be kind to yourself. Taking time for you will help you better serve those you love and care for too. And if you aren’t sure what you need or you don’t feel like you have answers to important questions, it is okay to ask for some assistance. Consider assistance from family, friends, clergy, co-workers, and our Employee Assistance Program. Remember you are a valuable part of our UW-Parkside community and the well-being of our campus is dependent on the well-being of each of us. There are numerous resources through our EAP program as well as other reliable sites. Below are a few resources:
Here are some other tips to unwind and recharge during this time!
-
Prioritize your sleep - either sleep in or go to bed early, but help yourself catch up on the hours you may have been missing. Get into a good schedule to help set yourself up for success to end the semester.
-
Get outside - The weather is finally getting nicer in Wisconsin! If you're stay-cationing, set aside time to take a walk outside, eat lunch outdoors or schedule a walk-n-talk meeting instead of the usually sitting in front of a screen meeting!
-
Grateful check-in - When we get busy, we tend to forget to take the time to acknowledge what we're grateful for. Take this time to call your family, hug your loved ones a little tighter, or thank the important people who are in your life. Write down what or who drives you to be your best and how can you have a 'glass half full' mentality each day.
-
Netflix shows - Sometimes the best way to unwind to get swept away in a Netflix series. Shows like Schitt's Creek, Bridgerton and The Good Place or even the longest-running game show on TV, Jeopardy, are available for hours on hours of streaming.
-
Escape into a book - Grab a book from the UWP Library or surf the web for new titles. Some good titles featuring Black authors are Four Hundred Souls by Ibram X. Kendi and Keisha N. Blain or The Hill We Climb and Other Poems by Amanda Gorman.
