Good Sam Book Group

November 2

6:00 pm

The next Book Club meeting will be on Thursday, November 2, at 6:00 PM in Henslee Hall. As always, please bring what you'd like to eat and drink with you!

In November we are reading The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell by Robert Dugoni. Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called "Devil Boy" or Sam "Hell" by his classmates; "God's will" is what his mother called his ocular albinism. He was buoyed by his mother's faith, his father's practical wisdom, and his two other misfit friends. A tragedy during his school years uprooted every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls, causing him to turn his back on his friends, his hometown, and the life he'd always known. Forty years later, as he looks back on his life, Sam embarks on a journey that will take him halfway around the world. This time, his eyes are wide open - bringing into clear view what changed him, defined him, and made him so afraid, until he can finally see what truly matters.

It's Time To "Fall Back"

Sunday, Nov. 5

Well, you know the drill...it's time to make sure our clocks are set correctly before retiring on Saturday evening. November 4. Some of our clocks automatically reset themselves, but if you have clocks that don't, make sure you turn back your clocks one hour. You'll get an extra hour of sleep and you won't be late for church!

Good Sam Candy Tithe

November 5 &12

All of our children gather way more candy than they really need, right? So why not share? On November 5&12, children may bring 10% of their Halloween candy to Good Sam. We'll have a collection box in a visible place for children to put their Candy Tithe.

Then, on November 12, those donations will be brought forward for a blessing during the service. Their candy will go to a worthy cause TBD.

This is an excellent opportunity to help our children learn the joy of giving back and to teach them about tithing. Thank you for your gracious generosity.

Acolyte Training Date Set

Sunday, Nov. 5

We will be having Torchbearer Training on November 5th right after the later Church service. This is for all current and new Torchbearers. If you currently serve as a Torchbearer, or would like to join the Acolyte Team, please meet in the sanctuary right after the 10:30 Church Service on November 5, 2023. It should be a relatively short session, no more than an hour.

Cash in the Plate

The Cash In The Plate for this coming Sunday goes to Winter Awakening.

Winter Awakening is an annual retreat where LGBTQIA+ people and friends in recovery from addiction can come together for renewal and support in their recovery and spirituality. Workshops, activities, and fellowship are based on the Eleventh Step of traditional 12-Step Programs, which states, "We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood God, praying only for knowledge of God's will for us and the power to carry that out." Winter Awakening is a 501(c)3 non-profit, and donations received support scholarships for attendees who might not otherwise be able to afford the event.

You can make an online cash plate gift to the cash in the plate on the Good Sam online giving page. There is an option on the giving page to give to the "Cash in Plate". As always, you may also send a check to Good Samaritan. Please put "Winter Awakening" in the memo line.
