Hey library friends -
It's another busy week here at the Mercer Library. Read on for a quick summary of the remainder of the month and don't forget to check the
Mercer Library website
for the many other things your library has to offer including our events schedule, online catalog, downloadable books and audiobooks, Gale Courses on a huge variety of topics, and more.
Keep an eye on your mailbox for our annual Friends of the Library Membership mailing, which should have been mailed to you late last week. Your donation to the Friends help support most of the programming we do here, new furniture and equipment, and all kinds of other extras that make our library service stand out.
We'll be closed next Monday for Memorial Day, but when we return we'll be on summer hours: Monday - Thursday 9am-7pm, Friday 9am-5pm, and Saturday 9am-noon. Let's hope that real summer weather is on the way soon!

Julie Klug - featured artist of the month
Nature photographer Julie Klug is our latest featured artist. She has shared over 50 photos of our beautiful northwoods, and I encourage you stop by and take a look at her beautiful work. As a bonus, Julie has offered to give away one of her prints. Stop by and "vote" on your favorite, and at the end of June we'll draw the name of one lucky winner to receive the matted print they voted for!

Volunteers needed!
The Mercer Library is open 51 hours a week in the summer with only 2 paid staff members, and one of us isn't even full time! To put that into perspective, the average Wisconsin library would have
three times
as much paid staff for the number of hours we are open.
So how do we do it? We rely on a group of skilled and dedicated volunteers to help us out. We have volunteers who are trained to do everything from new book processing to helping with programs. We'd like to add to our active volunteers list, so please let us know if you're interested in any of the following:
- Working the library desk
- Processing new materials (book covers, labeling A/V materials, etc.)
- Shelf reading (keeping our library shelves in order)
- Assisting with children's programming
- "Armchair Travel" presenters - Have a trip you'd like to share with the community? Consider presenting an Armchair Travel program this summer.
Our Friends of the Library group is also in need of new active members. They help out with support activities including sharing posters around town, providing snacks for programs, assisting with fundraisers like our book sales, and organizing our annual Fall Celebration in September. You don't have to attend Friends meetings to get involved, although new members are always welcome at the meetings held on the second Tuesday of the month at 10am.
If you are interested in getting more involved here at the library, reply to this email or give us a call at 715-476-2366. We'll be happy to get to know you and how you'd like to help!
