The Messenger- December 2023

Poinsettia Tree

The poinsettia tree is going artificial! The flowers will last for many years, which in turn will be more cost favourable as well as a lot safer, as watering the real plants was quite an undertaking on a ladder! We will also be able to enjoy the tree for a longer period each Christmas Season. We would be grateful for your donations to help cover the cost of the flowers. Donations can be placed on the plate (please mark your envelope "poinsettia"), dropped off at the Church Office or you may e-transfer your donation to united@wightman.ca and mark it poinsettia tree. If you would like your donation to be in memory of or in honour of someone special, please make note of your wishes on your envelope.

Christmas Bureau

The Christmas Bureau is in full swing and, not surprisingly, our registrations are up from last year. We will be helping around 400 people, many of them children. As White Gift Sunday approaches, if your preference is to buy a gift/ toy for a child, please pick up an Angel from the Angel Trees at Young’s Home Hardware or the Ecoden, and return the gift in a gift bag with the Angel attached either to where you got it or to church for White Gift Sunday. Our main focus this year though is to address food insecurity, so the best option, as you can, is to put a monetary donation in an envelope and bring it for White Gift Sunday, so we can buy groceries and grocery gift cards. Cheques should be made out to Mount Forest Christmas Bureau. Donations of $25 or more will get a tax receipt (if you give cash, remember to include your name and address!). Alternatively, e-transfers will be accepted at christmasbureaudonations@gmail.com. Our church family has always been a huge part of the success of this endeavour, and I thank you so much for your generosity! Daphne Rappard, chair.

Woodland Mitten Tree

The Mitten Tree is up at the Woodland Church! Please hang your donated mittens, hats, neck warmers (not scarves) and socks on our tree until

Dec. 15th. The items collected will be delivered to Victoria Cross Public School, Egremont Community School and St. Mary’s School to children who are in need of cold weather clothing. Donations may also be dropped off at the church office. Thank you for your continued support of this annual project.
