Dean's Update: Bringing Information to Life

The past month has been busy at the Libraries - Students turned a class project into an exhibit in the W. W. Hagerty Library that featured a "Humans of New York" style question and answer exchange with Drexel students. Sixty Drexel employees celebrated their achievement as authors or editors of books published in 2014. Over thirty faculty and staff across campus gathered to toast the end of the winter term prior to a ScholarSip conversation about trust. Nearly 200 students enjoyed a library coffee break during finals week. With grant funding, WHYY has subcontracted Drexel archive and cataloging expertise to help design a system for simpler access to its collected recordings of the popular program, Fresh Air. Community members in Mantua and Powelton Village will borrow iPads from a Lending Kiosk at the Dornsife Center for Neighborhood Partnerships.

Newest Vending Machine Dispenses iPads for Local Community Use

After successfully introducing a vending machine that dispensed MacBooks for 24-hour student use, Drexel University Libraries in collaboration with the Free Library of Philadelphia is introducing an iPad vending machine located in the Learning Terrace in the Lindy House of the Dornsife Center for Neighborhood Partnerships. Funded by a donor, the kiosk will make a dozen iPads available for use.    


2014 Drexel Authors & Editors: Celebrating Drexel Scholarship

The Libraries and the Office of the Provost celebrated 56 Drexel faculty and staff and three students who edited or authored books in 2014. The event recognized 61 total unique publications that included textbooks instructing students in math or preparing them for a nursing exam, to works of fiction, to biographies and stories told through photographs and poems. There were manuals for mental health practitioners, guidance for individuals saving for retirement and advice on leveraging creativity.  


ABC-CLIO Online History Award Recognizes Doctor or Doctress Site

Director of the Legacy Center, Joanne Murray, was recently awarded the ABC-CLIO Online History Award from the American Library Association. The award, given bi-annually, recognizes the accomplishments of a person or group of people producing a freely available online historical collection, or an online tool tailored for the purpose of finding historical materials, or an online teaching aid stimulating creative historical scholarship. 


Winter Term ScholarSip Event Highlights the Many Facets of Trust 

The Libraries welcomed members of the Drexel community to its 11th ScholarSip event on Monday, March 16, 2015 from 4 - 6 PM in the Academic Bistro. In total, 40 members of the faculty and professionals staff attended the event to hear a presentation from David Gefen, PhD, a Professor at Lebow College of Business.
