SEA Members,

This is a reminder that SEA is working on finalizing our bargaining team for the upcoming negotiations on potential reopening of school buildings in the fall. SEA has received vital input from members through the many building meetings that took place last month, along with feedback from our Board of Directors and our ARs.  Additionally, over 800 SEA members participated in the WEA statewide survey, another important source of input on this issue.  Your input is important.  Please take a few minutes to complete this survey:  https://tinyurl.com/SEA-Survey-To-Inform-Bargain

In addition to organizing our members, SEA member leaders are joining with other district labor groups and community stakeholders to include educator voices in the broader discussions around the opening of the 2020-2021 school year. The SPS Engagement Teams began on June 4 and are scheduled to continue for the next two weeks.  SEA has four representatives on each of the four Engagement Teams representing classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, SAEOPS, counselors, nurses, SPED, and ELL, who are working to ensure educator voice in the process and to lift up the critical issues of Health & Safety, Teaching & Learning, and Student Supports.

This work will also help inform how SEA bargains the safety and workload impacts related to the '20-21 SY.
The work of the Stakeholder Engagement Teams will not serve as an agreement between SEA and SPS on how school buildings may reopen in the fall. Any change in working conditions must be negotiated between the union and the district as our collective bargaining agreement dictates.

We welcome your input.

In solidarity,

SEA Leadership
