New Business | Las Montanas

On Sunday, November 19th, the Cherryland community celebrated the grand opening of the new Las Montanas supermarket with a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Castro Valley/Eden Area Chamber of Commerce.


Located in the Creekside Shopping Center, Las Montanas will provide Unincorporated Area residents with fresh groceries and exciting prepared food options.

On November 8th, ECD and the Castro Valley/Eden Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a webinar on holiday safety tips for Unincorporated Area businesses. Above are several techniques the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office has presented to protect customers, employees, and assets at a time of year when businesses can be vulnerable.

2024 FETA Workshops

The Food Entrepreneurship Training Academy – or FETA – is a free series on food business entrepreneurship sponsored by ECD and the East Bay Small Business Development Center (SBDC). The next Fundamental FETA series will run from February 6 to March 7, with a Spanish Fundamental FETA running from March 11 to April 8th.

Community Event

Castro Valley Light Parade

On November 11th, ECD partnered with the Castro Valley/Eden Area Chamber of Commerce to host the annual Castro Valley Light Parade.


Residents and families from across Alameda County were treated to a day of festivities culminating in a parade featuring illuminated floats decorated to usher in the holiday season.

Holiday Giving | ACSO Toy Drive

New Castro Valley pastry business Beard Papa's is teaming up with the Alameda County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) to collect toys for children in need this holiday season! Bring a new unwrapped toy to Beard Papa's now until December 15th and get two delicious mini puff pastries for free!


Toys can also be dropped off at the Sheriff's Eden Township Substation at 15001 Foothill Blvd. in San Leandro Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

Alameda County’s Administrative Minor Use Permit program – or AiMUP – has streamlined certain permitting for eligible businesses in the Unincorporated Area and assists in COVID recovery efforts. This allows for the approval of business permits for uses such as:


  • Outdoor dining, retail, and personal services
  • Community facilities
  • Pop-up spaces
  • Mobile food/retail
  • Musical performances


It only takes 5-10 days for most businesses to receive their permits through this program!

MOBILE CITIZEN APP


Alameda County utilizes a Mobile Citizen app that allows the public to report potholes, graffiti, and illegal dumping to the County's Public Works Agency. The app can be downloaded by searching "mobile citizen" in your phone's app store.
