FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK

May 13, 2022

Greeting Tiger Students and Families,

What a joy it was to attend Senior Prom and see our students dancing and having such a great time! I have to admit, students talked me into joining them on the dance floor as well as other staff, and we could not let our students down, so out there we went!! We had a blast! Great opportunity and memory for our students.

This past week, we have worked to revisit and reteach expectations with our students regarding behaviors that impact our school in a manner that disrupt the learning and sense of safety for students and staff. We have been supported by district leadership, and they have provided additional staff members to help support our efforts. Each day has been progressively improving as students and staff work together to support my expectations. Students need to be in class and on time, they need to have a hall pass when they need to leave class for any reason, use the restrooms in a timely, orderly, and safe manner, and not wander the halls, and student must be respectful of all adults who are here to support their success. I have been visiting classrooms every day to connect with students and staff, so I can get feedback on how things are progressing. The responses have been very positive, as students and staff are noticing a significant difference and feeling heard and valued. I know there is still work to be done, and I am committed to assuring that we have systems, procedures, and practices in place that support LC being the best school for all kids and staff.

Parents and guardians, if you could continue to share with your student that if they ever have any concerns or questions, to reach out to their teacher(s), counselor, administration, or the adult they have the closest connection with, that would be very helpful.

I plan for us to continue our focus on this important work for the remainder of this year and continue our momentum into the 22-23 school year. Your feedback is always welcomed. Please reach out to me at ivanc@spokaneschools.org or (509) 354-6890.

With gratitude,

Mr. Ivan Corley

Principal

May Week.jpg

May Week Celebrations

Next week, May 16-20, we are finally able to bring back the cherished May Week tradition! Our seniors are the only class that know what May Week is all about. May Week is one of the most exciting weeks of the year. After AP testing, spring sports, and the long journey towards graduation for our seniors, we celebrate a year of success in our Tiger community. The week consists of spirit dress up days, food trucks and special treats provided by the cafeteria, music from our very own student bands during lunch, a week-long volleyball tournament, and a new addition to the week, a con on Friday.

We will continue to operate on one lunch, which has allowed Leadership students to organize food trucks, a volleyball tournament, spike ball games, and performances from student bands. The festivities will operate in the courtyard behind the Commons.

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: You must go through the lunch line and use your ID number

Tuesday and Thursday: Food trucks behind the Commons on 5th street

Spirit dress up days and lunch treats for May 16-20:

Monday, May 16: Rice Krispy Treats

Spirit Day: USA Day - red, white, blue

Tuesday, May 17: Kona Ice, $4 snow cones

Spirit Day: Age Day - 9th (babies), 10th (teenagers), 11th (adults), 12th (senior citizens)

Wednesday, May 18: Cookies

Spirit Day: Adam Sandler Day - wear baggy clothes

Thursday, May 19: Ben & Jerry’s, $5 for 1 scoop, $6 for 2 scoops

Spirit Day: Anything but a Backpack - carry things in anything but a backpack

Friday, May 20: Root beer floats

Spirit Day: Class colors - 9th (blue), 10th (orange), 11th (green), 12th (white)

To celebrate, our generous cafeteria staff will be providing treats for all students. On Monday there will be Rice Krispy treats, on Wednesday there will be cookies, and on Friday there will be root beer floats. They will be served to all students for free through the cafeteria lines. We will be continuing the May Week tradition of having food trucks in the courtyard. There will be a Kona Ice truck selling shaved ice for $4.00 on Tuesday, and a Ben & Jerry’s truck selling ice cream, $5.00 for a single scoop or $6.00 for a double scoop, on Thursday.

To conclude the week, a new tradition of a May Week Con will be held after 5th period on Friday. For the first time in two years, the entire school will be able to gather in the gym for spirit competitions, performances from our music departments, drill team, and cheer, an introduction of next year’s ASB officers, and the championship volleyball game between the winning student team from the week’s tournament and the teacher team!

ASB & Leadership is extremely excited to be able to hold May Week after two years. Come out to enjoy the sunshine and celebrate the final stretch of the school year!

Applicant Qualifications:

  1. Applicants must be a LC Senior graduating in 2022.

PARKING.png

Student and Parent/Visitor Parking

Parent/Visitor Parking: LC does not have designated visitor parking, so you can park at any of the metered spots across the street. For after-hours events, you can park for free in any of the parking lots under the freeway. The doors to the Commons building are handicap accessible.

Student Drop-off/Pick-Up: Before and after school, 4th Avenue in front of LC is a busy place with school buses and parents competing for limited space. In order to help alleviate congestion, we recommend that parents drop off and pick up students either on 5th Avenue, 3rd Avenue or a block east or west of LC on 4th Avenue. It is important to not park (even for a drop off) in the bus zones.

Student Parking: LC students can park in the two freeway lots (in front of the Field House and in front of the church to the east). Be sure to display your student parking permit to avoid getting a ticket in the student lots. Student parking permits can be purchased in the Business Office for $5. The lot directly in front of the main building and the parking garage are only for LC staff and are monitored for cars without staff permits.
