Emerging in the early 20th century, modern design is a style of interior design that continues to inspire.
Characterized by an emphasis on abstract thinking, functionality, a monochromatic color palette, clean lines, minimalism, and natural materials, it is not to be confused with contemporary design. Influenced by modern art and movements such as Bauhaus and Scandinavian architecture, it favors a form follows function philosophy and experiments with shape. By incorporating modern style into homes and offices, a simplicity ensues that pairs well with open concept spaces and the contemporary emphasis on decluttering.
We have curated a sample of IDS vendors that excel in modern style:

RUG SPOTLIGHT
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?
|
|
When you hear the word modern, you automatically think new, fresh, or current…in other words…contemporary. In the world of design, modern can be contemporary, but contemporary doesn’t always mean modern.
Modern design typically refers to a mid-century 50’s & 60’s style. That was their contemporary back then, but isn’t necessarily contemporary here in 2022, and the area rug world is no different. Modern rugs will typically have a clean line geometric feel to them, using contrasting colors. Modern area rugs often have a “retro” feel to them, and are actually being used quite often now, as the retro look is quickly aligning with what we are considering to be contemporary.
Mid-century modern is a look that many furniture lines are bringing back, and area rugs are definitely following the trend in order to keep up with the current styling. High pile textures and crisp geometric lines are being utilized, creating bold jaw-dropping design. Retro colors such as black, green, gold, orange, and brown are coming back with a vengeance, as people are starting to shy away from the ever so popular blues, grays, and white tones in their home decor. The modern family isn’t just a hit cable television show, but also a look that is just as stylish as it was over a half a century ago.
