ISSUE NO. 250 / April 28, 2021
Tom Pirozzoli, artist
April is one of the most important months of the year for New England's natural world and the health of our planet. It is the month the world celebrates “Earth Day" on the 22nd and we observe the national “Arbor Day” holiday on the 30th. (“arbor” translates as “tree” day from the Latin origin of the word). Perhaps take a walk in the forests and practice the Japanese ritual of “shinrin-yoku” or “forest bathing”... not literally bathing, but taking in the sights and aromas of the forest. It is a scientifically proven way to reduce stress and bring centering energy to your everyday with the simple timeless beauty and wisdom of the evergreens. Let us celebrate the planting, care and preservation of trees.
Why did Lawrence Olivier so often return to Shakespeare's Othello? Why did Ansel Adams keep photographing the Grand Canyon? Obsessed or awestruck, artists revisit great inspiration because they believe there is yet another story to tell about life, about themselves.
