This new virtual workshop opportunity, titled Tactics for Sponsor and Exhibitor Engagement (and Results!) in Challenging Times, will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2020, 9:30 am-12:30 pm CT. Even in the best financial times, generating non-dues revenue is an essential activity for every association, and your sponsors, exhibitors and advertisers are savvy buyers with high ROI expectations. Association professionals in charge of selling and managing these relationships often have limited sales experience, and sales is not typically their favorite hat to wear. Add COVID-19 to the mix, and financial uncertainty, staff layoffs and possible deep marketing budget cuts make the sales process more difficult than ever.
This interactive workshop is geared toward professionals who need to fine tune their sales approach, understand the latest trends and expectations from the advertiser, sponsor and exhibitor community, and learn how active listening and being empathetic can help those relationships for the short and long term.

WSAE 2020 Summit is canceled
Faced with the unprecedented impact of the coronavirus pandemic on our industry and the ongoing concern for our members, the WSAE Board of Directors made the difficult decision to cancel the Summit scheduled for October 26-27, 2020, at the Brookfield Conference Center. This action was taken out of caution in response to safety concerns, travel restrictions and member organization's budget constraints.
Our Education Committee is working hard to develop alternative solutions so that we may still deliver an excellent lineup of educational programming and opportunities to connect our members virtually. Please watch for additional information in the coming weeks.
WSAE Chair Kathy Raab said "While we're disappointed to have to cancel the 2020 Summit the Board felt it was in the best interest of both the organization and our members. We're committed to providing quality educational opportunities through the remainder of the year and we look forward to a larger than usual turnout when we're able to meet in person again!"
If you have any questions or concerns, or if there is anything WSAE can help you or your organization with during this unprecedented time, please contact us.

VISIT Milwaukee launches virtual tour of Milwaukee in advance of DNC
VISIT Milwaukee unveiled an immersive virtual experience to showcase this unparalleled city and the thoughtful, resilient people who make it come together. From old fashioneds and cheese curds, to Alice's Garden's meditative labyrinth and the local music scene, this collective experience includes 30 videos that cover traditions beloved by locals and visitors alike. And they're not just your average tourism videos. These videos feature the voices of 30 passionate Milwaukeeans who share with viewers an inside look at what makes the city such a dynamic place.
"There's nothing like being in Milwaukee in person, of course, but we also know this year is unlike any other," says Peggy Williams-Smith, president and CEO of VISIT Milwaukee. "These 30 videos provide a look at our city through the eyes of the people who know it best from across the community, and we couldn't be prouder to provide this experience to the visitors who couldn't visit in person this summer, including DNC delegates, donors, and members of the press."

COVID-19 relief talks still at stalemate, and Congress home now until September
Talks on a new COVID-19 relief package have gone nowhere on Capitol Hill this week, leading to speculation that a deal won't be reached before September at the earliest. The vast majority of senators headed home last week and the House is in recess until Sept. 14, with attention shifting for the next two weeks to the Democratic and GOP conventions. Read more.

ASAE to hold program for prospective PPP applicants
Given the time sensitivity associations will face should Congress expand eligibility for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) to include 501(c)(6) organizations, ASAE is hosting a virtual session Aug. 18 at 2 p.m. ET to help prospective PPP applicants understand the PPP loan application process and requirements. Read more.

ACTION REQUEST
Reminder: Complete ASAE's data request form
More data is requested to further demonstrate to Congress why the unfair lobbying restrictions must be lifted, and that any PPP eligibility expansion should replicate terms provided to other eligible entities. ASAE again respectfully ask for your time and support - please complete their data request form as soon as possible to help unequivocally demonstrate our community's need and help save imperiled organizations. While not exhaustive, the form is somewhat long out of necessity. You patience is greatly appreciated as you complete the form to the best of your knowledge. Thank you to the more than 500 organizations who have already completed the form. Your support and ongoing advocacy are invaluable for the association community.

PPP amendment would lower employee cap to 150
Vague lobbying language in PPP could potentially, even likely, exclude many organizations with fewer than 150 employees from the PPP. Ten percent is a low threshold for any organization, but, unlike for 501(c)(6) organizations, these proposed restrictions would not apply to businesses and other nonprofits. And, many 501(c)(6)s that employ fewer than 150 people could easily cross whatever ten-percent lobbying threshold the Small Business Administration were to create.
If you haven't already, now is a critical time to use ASAE's template Tweet or automated congressional appeal to urge lawmakers to expand the PPP on fair, equitable terms. We cannot overstate how important your outreach is right now. (Note: If you already sent a congressional appeal for this campaign, the system won't let you do so again. In that case, please email ASAE staff at publicpolicy@asaecenter.org for additional outreach options.)
