RE: SB 754

Dear PIA VA/DC Member:

We need your help. SB 754 has passed the Senate and is headed over to the House Commerce & Energy committee.

This bill automatically converts current auto policies to excess underinsured motorist coverage (UIM) without the consumer’s agreement. A consumer’s insurance costs could automatically go up after July 1, 2022, even though the consumer did not request this increase in coverage. According to estimates by the American Property Casualty Insurance Association, SB 754 could raise the cost of UIM coverage PER VEHICLE by TWO THIRDS beginning July 1, 2022. Consequently, PIA is opposed to this bill.

Now is the time for action.

We are asking our members to contact their Delegate by sending the attached letter via email within the next 24 hours before the committee meets on this bill.

Thank you in advance for your prompt action.
