ParentVUE:

Deepening Connections with Millbrook Central School District families

You’ve gotten the notifications, clicked the links and have likely already been using the app – but how much do you know about Synergy ParentVUE?

When Millbrook Assistant Superintendent for Instruction and Community Relations Dr. Amy Watkins approached Assistant Superintendent for Business and Personnel Elliot Garcia about a new Student Information System (SIS) last year, she had one major goal in mind: to offer a more user-friendly way for parents, teachers and administrators to view and share information – not just grades, but a comprehensive picture of the whole student.

“We were looking for an easier way for everyone to access and track student information,” said Watkins. “The effort was so important for one of the pillars of our new strategic plan: discourse. We wanted to create a more meaningful connection with families.”

Enter Synergy Education Platform, an SIS that allows school districts to record and track student information all in one place. Providing a simpler experience for both schools and families, Synergy also offers multiple apps for easy access to student information on mobile devices.

The designated app for families, ParentVUE, was particularly appealing. Designed to put a comprehensive snapshot of their child’s school experience at their fingertips, ParentVUE also allows parents to update their child’s information, report an absence, view class schedules and communicate directly with teachers and staff members.

When Dr. Watkins learned about Synergy’s potential, she and Garcia jumped at the opportunity. Work on the new system began in January 2023; by the end of summer break it was ready to roll out. Hundreds of Millbrook families downloaded ParentVUE, instantly connecting them to their students’ educational experience.

A Millbrook parent as well as an administrator, Garcia was immediately impressed with ParentVUE’s functionality.

“The coolest part as a parent is that it’s not just grades and schedules,” said Garcia. “It’s everything from my son’s attendance, grade book, health information, report cards and even emotional wellness.”

On the technical side, MCSD’s Supervisor of Digital Fluency and Data Privacy Evan Kirsch praised ParentVUE for its ease and transparency. He describes Synergy as “the beating heart of the district.”

“This is all you need to track your students’ education. It really is the ultimate one-stop shop,” said Kirsch.

“This is a major effort to improve our ability to connect with our Millbrook families and provide a transparent look at their kids’ school experience,” said Garcia. “The more information families have at their fingertips, the more we’re able to support their students.”

Millbrook Central School District Welcomes Back Students

Millbrook Central School District students began the 2023-24 school year with a flourish!

Elm Drive Elementary School’s littlest learners spent this month exploring their classrooms and getting acquainted with teachers and new friends. Students at Alden Place Elementary filled the hallways and classrooms with energy and enthusiasm, while Millbrook’s middle and high school students hit the ground running with brand new course work and activities.

Families were treated to Back to School Nights throughout the month of September. Held in each building on separate nights, the well-attended events provided an opportunity to meet teachers and get up to speed classroom curricula and expectations. There were smiles all around as families viewed their children’s artwork and assignments lining the hallways.

Millbrook Central School District is confident that this year will be an enriching and exciting experience. Thank you for your support and cooperation!
