All in the family
Three generations of artistic talent in the Meece family began with grandmother Mary Glen Joy Fouts '62 and her active roles in Lads & Lassies and Theater while at HPHS. Her daughter Ashley Aldridge Meece '86 followed in her footsteps by performing as a dancer in Grease, the senior musical in 1986. Then along came Ashley's two daughters, Lyla '22 and McKinley '24 who have both starred in roles over the past several years at HPHS.
McKinley, a HPHS senior, recently starred as Velma Kelly in the HPHS production, Chicago: Teen Edition. She has also played roles in Beauty and the Beast, Legally Blonde and Shrek. Older sister, Lyla, starred as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde her senior year in 2021 and also played roles in Shrek and Phantom of the Opera. Lyla is currently a sophomore at Baylor where she is a theater major with a focus on musical performance.
Talent runs deep in this family!

Mad for Plaid is the Education Foundation’s annual campaign, which raises public support for HPISD's critical budget needs. Currently, that critical need is raising the bar for teacher and staff salaries districtwide. During the 2022-2023 school year, we have committed a $1.7 million gift to HPISD for districtwide salaries that will aid the district in raising the bar for competitive educator pay. We cannot meet that commitment without our community's continued investment!
Think about an HPISD teacher or coach who made an impact on your life. Many of them are still working in the district today. As an HPHS alum, will you commit to making a difference in their lives with a Mad for Plaid gift of $25 or more this year? Visit hpef.org/mad-for-plaid to learn more or donate.

On October 18, the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team visited HPHS and the Moody Advanced Professional Studies program (MAPS) to inspire students on the business and STEM fields of racing. Students had an opportunity to ask questions and interact with the drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen, the team principal Gunther Steiner and MoneyGram's Chief Marketing Officer Greg Hall. What an inspirational day at HPHS!
MAPS operates in an award-winning 15,000-square-foot modern facility within Highland Park High School, has created unique, relevant, and impactful professions-based courses for juniors and seniors. MAPS students also work with experienced and engaging professionals on current topics such as engineering and design, business and entrepreneurship, brain science and health, environmental architecture, modern media, and sports analytics.

Lead for Tomorow Endowment Campaign | |
On August 30, the Highland Park Education Foundation launched the public phase of “Lead for Tomorrow,” a multi-year endowment campaign with a goal of raising $40 million by the end of 2026. The leadership phase of this campaign began in January 2021 and has already raised $19 million in new gifts and pledges. Donors have established more than 95 new funds in the Tartan Endowment, a permanent source of support managed by HPEF for the benefit of teachers, students, and staff throughout the Highland Park ISD. The market value of the Tartan Endowment combined with these new pledges exceeds $52 million.
Brittany Cristofoli, a fourth grade teacher at Hyer, thanked donors who have already supported the campaign,
“My fellow teachers and I are astounded by the generosity of the Highland Park community.” She added, “This campaign demonstrates just how important public schools are to the Park Cities.”
Co-Chairs of the campaign Leadership Committee are Cindy and Guy Kerr, both HPHS alumni. Honorary Chairs are Judy and Jim Gibbs and Marla and Mike Boone. The full committee and additional campaign information is available at leadfortomorrow.org. Also available on the website is a video about the campaign by Broadway and Hollywood actor Stark Sands from the HPHS Class of ’97. We hope you’ll visit to learn more and read about how you can establish a Legacy Fund!
