A MESSAGE FROM The Rev. Tina Rathbone
Of all the images I’ve seen from the Ukraine this past week, this is the one I printed so I could pray with, for and through it each morning and evening. The image reminds me of the full humanity of every single person whose life is being threatened by the war, and also of the truth that even in the midst of death, new life can be born.

Would you spend a little time right now looking at this mother and child as they look at each other, so full of love and light and peace? We cannot see the war that surrounds them, but we know it is there. What can we do to stand with them on the side of life in the face of this unjust, brutal and unequal war? Here are two things that can help:

1.There are numerous organizations offering direct assistance on the ground, including Doctors Without Borders, which provides excellent medical care even in the heart of a war like this, and the smaller, even more direct GoFundMe page established by journalists for the Kyiv Independent newspaper, who have continued to work so we can know what is going on, even as they fear for themselves, their families and their homes. A donation, no matter how small, will help.

2. Prayer is real, tangible - and urgently needed. Are you willing to take a moment now to sit down and settle in with an image from the Ukraine and then offer whatever words come to God? If so, please do. Then repeat. And repeat. And repeat.
Community in Faith
Wednesday evening Lenten series
are offered in collaboration with Hevreh,
St. Paul’s Church, Christ Trinity Church,
and Grace Church.
The Rev. Erik Karas and Rabbi Neil Hirsch will lead the book exploration of The Bible With and Without Jesus: How Jews and Christians Read the Same Stories Differently by Dr. Amy-Jill Levine

Join us on Zoom, Wednesdays,
March 9th through April 6th at 7:00pm

We will examine why Jews and Christians read many of the same Biblical texts – including passages from the Pentateuch, the Prophets, and the Psalms – differently. Exploring and explaining these diverse perspectives reveals more clearly Scripture’s beauty and power. It is not necessary to purchase the book.

GIDEON'S GARDEN
I attended a meeting with Showing Up for Racial Justice (WMSURJ), who are discussing rematriation efforts in Central Mass. A grounding guideline during the conversation was that these efforts, facilitated by a group of non-Indigenous folks, is moving at the "speed of trust" with the Nipmuc community leaders.

There is no rushing the process. As in community building and relationship care, giving space and time for development is essential and loving.

Never-ending patience in the process, is a theme I work with a lot as a grower as well. We work with, alongside and sometimes against our natural environment, listening to what our Creation asks of us. What steps do we take to Care for Creation? And on the timescale of the natural world, who will follow in our footsteps to take up this essential mantel of Creation Care as we see it? I am reminded of the respect at the heart of Gideon's Garden which we aim to share with all who visit. I pray we are guided by love to listen and learn respect for our Creation.

The EFM Readout

Our EfM seminar this week was focused on the nitty gritty of Theological Reflection. We learned about the process and undertook an instructed reflection. Our starting point was an Ash Wednesday reading from Isaiah 58. We discerned that the key message was “Wake Up, Hypocrites!” and at the end of our discussion wrote the following collect.

COLLECT
God, source of truth and righteousness,
We pray that you waken us to our own hypocrisies
So that our beliefs and behaviors may become one.
In Jesus’ name we pray.
Amen

Third Sunday Supper

April 17 ,at 5:45 PM

Location to be decided.
Second Sunday in Lent
Luke 13:31-35

Some Pharisees came and said to Jesus, "Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you." He said to them, "Go and tell that fox for me, 'Listen, I am casting out demons and performing cures today and tomorrow, and on the third day I finish my work. Yet today, tomorrow, and the next day I must be on my way, because it is impossible for a prophet to be killed outside of Jerusalem.' Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! See, your house is left to you. And I tell you, you will not see me until the time comes when you say, 'Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.'"

Our New Prayer Basket

We welcome you to use our new prayer basket.
On Sundays you will find a basket near the welcome table, with slips of paper available for you to write down prayer requests. You can ask for prayers for those who are ill, or in need of healing or encouragement of any kind, prayers for intentions, journeys, or projects, the birth or adoption of children, and prayers of thanksgiving for anything that needs celebrating. In other words, please ask for any prayers that are important to you and those you love. You may identify yourself and those for whom prayers are needed, but names are not necessary or required. These requests will be prayed for by our healing ministers both during the service and during the week for a period of one month. Keep an eye out for the basket!!

WHAT ARE YOU
GRATEFUL FOR?
In this time of fear and anxiety, it can be easy to miss the daily blessings that are right in front of us. Being grateful is not just for good times. Being grateful is even more important when fear sets a place at your table and heartbreak seems to be in your every breath. Because by being grateful we become aware of all the ways God is working in us. Being grateful is a part of our healing and our deliverance. Being grateful is where our best selves reside.
SHINE YOUR LIGHT

Thank you for giving generously to support the ministry of Grace.  You may continue to mail your contributions to Grace Church, P.O. Box 114, Great Barrington, MA 01230. As we begin to gather in person, you may bring your contribution to our services on Sunday, once again.
