January 24, 2021
Dear Parents of CCHS Students,

I am writing to provide information on a change to the quarantine policy from the Catholic Schools Office. This change follows directives from the CDC and is also a result of a review of data gathered over the past six months.

The updated policy goes into effect Monday, January 25 and now provides three options for parents to consider if a student has been exposed to COVID-19. (Exposure from close contact is defined as being within 6 feet for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more in a 24 hour period.)

The three quarantine options are as follows:

  1. Your child must stay at home, monitor for any symptoms and quarantine for 14 days. If your child does not develop symptoms, he/she may return to school 14 days after exposure.
  2. Your child must stay at home, monitor for any symptoms and quarantine for 10 days.   If your child does not develop symptoms, he/she may return to school 10 days after exposure. Continue to monitor symptoms for 14 days.
  3. Your child must stay at home for 7 days and be tested for COVID-19 (PCR or antigen assay) within 48 hours before end of the quarantine. Test results must be presented to the school nurse or designee. If your child does not develop symptoms, he/she may return to school 7 days after exposure. Continue to monitor for symptoms for 14 days.

If your child has been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 at school, you will be notified.

As a reminder and with spring break approaching, we ask you to follow the CDC guidelines and requirements regarding domestic or international travel. These guidelines are updated regularly, and you may click here: CDC requirements on travel for current information. Specifically, any CCHS student or faculty member travelling out of the country will be asked to quarantine for seven days from the date of return in addition to adhering to any other CDC requirements. These guidelines and requirements are subject to change.

Please continue to be mindful of proper mask wearing and safe distancing. The new variant strain (B.1.1.7) of COVID-19 has now been confirmed in North Carolina, and it is also important to note that the percent positivity rate in North Carolina remains high at 12.4%. It is more important than ever to stay home when you are sick.

As always, please monitor your child for symptoms of illness including fever, chills, new cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, new loss of taste and/or smell, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. If you or family members display any symptoms, please do not send your child to school. Contact your physician or call the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus hotline at 1-866-462-3821.

Should you have any additional questions, please contact Nurse Kathie Holder at 704-543-1127 or at kaholder@charlottecatholic.com.

If you learn that your student has tested positive for COVID-19, please call the school immediately at 704-543-1127. If it is after hours or on the weekend, please email me at: ktelford@charlottecatholic.com.

Prayerfully yours,
Kurt Telford, Principal
