Clarion – CD Wiring Diagram
With the Clarion unit now over 30 years old, the electronics and wiring can become problematic. Often the unit may stop working completely but before you think it’s faulty, this could be down to the connections at the back of the unit.

How to check the connections?
Remove the unit and with a multimeter check pins 6 and 10 below. Make sure you turn the ignition key for pin 10. If you are not showing 12v then check the fuses.
Bay Strut Brace - New
The Nissan Figaro was never designed to be a performance vehicle with its soft suspension that effortlessly glides over most bumps and undulations in the road. Initially designed for the smooth roads of Japan, the need for a strut brace was never on the priority list for Nissan when designing the model. Benefits include:

  • Reduced Chassis Flex
  • Very simple to fit
  • Special Edition Grey (10 only)
  • More confident and accurate cornering at speeds

Figaro Toys
Over the years, a number of toy manufacturers have created the Nissan Figaro.

Ranging in size from 210mm (1:18 scale) down to 40mm.

Available in metal diecast or plastic the toys are more for static display than play.

Our new webpage shows all 7 toys, most are not available now and available on auction sites, changing hands for as much as 4 times the original price.

Give Us A Wave!
The image that makes us smile :)
The club was launched on the 1st March 2009 and 3 years later we plucked up the courage to organise our very first rally. We choose Jersey because of its quiet and pretty roads plus the fact that one of our members actually owned a hotel that could accommodate us all. In fact, we enjoyed ourselves so much that we returned 7 years later.

Many of our members have attended many of our club's rallies and two have helped us organise them, that being Ken Graham - Scotland 2015 and Jane Ellison-Bates - Yorkshire 2017. Browse all these events and many more Click here
Track your stolen figgy for just £29!!
The Apple Air Tag is a low-cost security solution for tracking just about anything. Kevin tests the device in the club car with astounding results.
Words & Pictures - Kevin Fagan

I was truly intrigued about the possabilities of this tiny product. Could it really track our Figaro? We placed it in the lower boot of Belle and Sue then drove into the nearby town of High Wycombe for the weekly shop.

The results were simply astounding because, within just 3 minutes of leaving the house, Kevin’s iPhone had located the car. 10 minutes later the phone actually ‘pinged’ with a text message saying “Figaro this item was seen near the cinema” just before the car was parked in the ASDA car park. So the key question I suspect most owners want to be answered is could an AirTag help track down a stolen Figaro. I’d give that a qualified ‘yes’. But let’s be clear about the Air Tag’s limitations. This is not a great device for live tracking. Don’t think that if you see your car being stolen off the drive, you’ll be able to see a little dot moving across Apple Maps, plotting the car’s ‘live journey’. It’s not a GPS tracker and the updates provided from an Air Tag are sporadic.

The iPhone displayed the location of Belle as Sue drove towards High Wycombe. The updates came through every few minutes.
"The screenshot that the 'Find My App' provides a precise address for the AirTags location, complete with postcode/zip code, as well as a time for when it was last located. That information could be vital if you’re trying to convince the police to attend to a stolen vehicle, for instance!"
HOW DOES IT WORK
The Air Tag works by connecting to nearby iPhones or iPads using ultra-wideband technology? That has a maximum range of about 30ft (9m). The key thing is that the Air Tag doesn’t have to lock on to your iPhone to provide a location – it will latch onto any modern iPhone or iPad. If your car thief happens to have an iPhone on them, the updates might be regular. If not, you could be waiting ten minutes, half an hour or even hours between location updates, because it will need someone to pass close by with an iPhone/iPad.

This obviously means that the AirTag is a much better tracker in busy urban environments than it is in rural areas. If your stolen car is dumped down a quiet country lane or in the middle of nowhere, the chances of your AirTag locking onto a nearby iPhone are obviously greatly reduced. That said, the AirTag has managed to accurately locate the parked location of Belle when Sue took it shopping. When she’s parked the Figaro, the location was accurate enough to reveal what part of the open-air car park she was parked in, meaning I’d be confident of finding Belle if it were stolen and dumped with the AirTag inside!
One of the advantages of using an AirTag rather than a GPS system to track a vehicle is that it can still locate cars in underground car parks. And if you’re trying to locate your vehicle in said car park, the ‘Precise Finding’ feature (only available on iPhone 11 or 12 models) might even help you pinpoint the car’s exact location in that car park, although by the time Precise Finding kicks in you’ll probably be able to see the car anyway.

PLACING THE AIR TAG IN THE FIGARO
Air Tags are small enough to easily hide in any part of the Figaro. Also, as it lasts for a year, you can hide it and just forget it, remember where you hid it though!

How to change your spark plugs
It’s a common misunderstanding that our Figaros only have three spark plugs. The fourth plug (one being on the driver side of the engine) is hidden under the pipe that comes from the turbo!
Words & Pictures - Toby Brooks The Figaro Shop

Although spark plugs may seem like a minor thing, you screw them in, you screw them out. The Figaro does have some quirks and over the years we have come up with a few tricks for making the job easier. Being such a hot-running, turbocharged engine, we recommend that you should change the spark plugs a maximum of 12 months or 12,000 miles apart, whichever comes sooner. It’s often the case that owners of classic cars think that due to the little amount of use the car gets, it doesn’t need to be serviced - I think if anything it’s more important. In order to do this job, the first thing you will need is the correct parts and tools.

The plugs we use in the workshop are NGK, the part number is BCPR6ES-11.

  • The 11 is the size of the gap at the end of the plug, where it sparks.
  • The ‘BCPR’ refers to the thread and size of the spanner/socket required for the plug. This number uses a 10mm rather than the usual 14mm plug spanner, I’ll explain later why this is so important. The other letters refer to length and heat rating.

As well as these sockets you will need an adjustable joint for an extension bar, four plugs and some HT pliers to safely remove the leads.

The first step is to remove the old spark plugs; part of the reason to change the plugs annually is to avoid them getting seized into the engine. If yours are not too old they should come out easily.

It’s a common misunderstanding that the Figaro has three cylinders/plugs, we often have called for a set of three plugs. The fourth plug (one being on the driver side of the engine) is hidden under the pipe that comes from the turbo.
TOOLS REQUIRED
The picture shows the slightly 'ground down' end of our spark plug spanner, accompanied by a flexible spanner extension is the easiest way to remove the fourth and most tricky spark plug. This is also the reason we use the smaller spark plug, the larger ones leave such minimal clearance that they are really hard to remove and refit. Change the plugs one at a time, when refitting the plugs put a tiny bit of oil on the threads, just to ensure the easiest fitting and reduce the chance of cross-threading. Once the plugs are installed simply refit the ignition leads and you’re ready to go!
Cabin Trim Colours
We all know that the car was manufactured in four body colours but did you also know that each colour had an interior trim colour applied to each.
Words and Pictures: Kevin Fagan
The Figaro was produced in four main body colours which we refer to as the Classic Colours. Emerald Green, Pale Aqua, Topaz Mist and Lapis Grey.

Each car had a matching trim colour inside the cabin which you can see by the picture here >>

These 4 colours were applied to the following 4 areas of the car

  • Dashboard Top
  • Steering Wheel Horn
  • Seat Beading
  • Carpet

Below shows the locations of each colour. You can see that the top dash matches the horn, carpet and seat beading. If your Figgy has been sprayed a different colour you can tell what the original colour of the car was by the trim!
The centre horns cap colour is a great clue to the interior trim colour of your Figaro

Silverstone Lap Of Lights 2022
11 cars attended the event which took place on the 3rd January 2022. The weather kept dry in the evening and it wasn't too cold, in fact, some of us actually dropped our hoods for the run.
Words and Pictures Kevin Fagan

11 Figs attended on the 3rd January 2022. Follow them as they drive a lap around the 3.6-mile world-famous circuit which included 440 laser beams, 400,000 festive lights, and a hidden Santa within each part of the world.

The cars were kept at a strict 5mph speed limit along the asphalt – the same graced by the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel who each changed the face of racing.

Making our way around, members were met with scenes from around the globe – a huge lit-up pyramid signifies Egypt, overhead lanterns for Asia, and icebergs and polar bears to let us know when we were in the Arctic. In-between the continents and when approaching the iconic home straight, huge lights and lasers swept across the track.
Lit up like a Christmas tree!
Pete and Sandra Pattermore dressed their Figaro with LED lights which led the way in our figgy convoy.

Fibreglass Bumper Upgrade
A set of Figaro bumpers for just 375 Euros could be a low-cost option to keep your figgy on the road?
Words & Pictures Kevin Fagan

Irish member Brendan Tighe contacted the club about a new product that he has been working on for a number of years.

Brendan became frustrated about the high costs of chrome bumpers so went about manufacturing a replacement set from a cheaper material like fibreglass. Part of the cost-saving has been achieved by creating the front bumper with streamlined corners. Where there was before 6 parts required (front, rear, 2 x left, 2x right corners) you only now have two (front/back).
Finished in WK3 (wing mirror colour) the bumpers have a gel coat so he claims will not fade. Other benefits included that they are repairable, replaceable, colour changeable and easy to install. No rust issues ever again.

Of course, if you go for this option you are moving away from the original design and DNA of the car with the chrome trim playing a major role but if money's tight and you like the look of the white bumpers it may be this could be a great lower-cost option. especially if you decide to paint the rear light surrounds the same colour!
EXCLAIMER: The Figaro Owners Club have not fitted or seen these in the flesh so cannot comment on the quality. Also, we recommend checking with your local regulator regarding any laws that may be in place concerning changing the car bumper from metal to fibreglass.
PRICE
A set retails at 375 euro (he is in Ireland) plus postage.
Meet our members
We love to publish pictures of all our brilliant members with their Figs, so don't be shy and get in touch and we promise to include you in the next edition!
We thought you might enjoy a picture taken on the same day as our winning calendar entry! I wasn’t aware of Dolly’s intention to do so! I love both images but on reflection, I’m aware there is a much more complete view of ‘Lucy’ and ‘Zelda’. (probably spoiled by the two floozies in the centre)!

Dolly Webb & Geraldine Collis - Ireland
Just wanted to thank you on yet another good project - dashboard painting - see before and afters - before was nice, but pretty crappy.

It was not easy getting the dash out - but once out; we used the paint from the Figaro shop; and took it to a local mob that managed to get it into a rattle can. Proper chuffed. Loving this journey guys

A bit scared to try the roof replacement - maybe later in the year. I have all the gear.

Miles Sterrick - Australia
Thought you might like this photo of my Fig (Isobel) with my friend's dog, Bertie, for the newsletter! I had my windows down as I was coming up the driveway, and Bertie stuck his head right in and gave me a kiss haha

Niki Khan - England
I guess I have a story for you... I just bought my Figaro and it is one of 3 units originally bought in 1991 as new units in Portugal.

Another amazing thing is that I shipped it to Madeira Island (where my wife is from) so that we can have a car there for our holidays.

Currently, as far as I know, she's 1 of the 2 existing cars in Portugal, and due to the new high CO2 restrictions on imported cars,

The car is in very good condition but still I am giving her some much needed TLC as we need to make sure that the engine is in perfect condition before we start using it.

I should have "Elvira" (that is her name) up and running this week for you to see.

Currently, as far as I know, she's 1 of the 2 existing cars in Portugal, and due to the new high CO2 restrictions on imported cars, I believe that no other Figaros will ever enter the market (there is a 10.000 eur government registration fee for high CO2 cars).

Diogo Franco - Portugal
The girls in the picture are family friends of mine. The Galen girls. Kelsey, Aubrey and Kathy Galen.

Angie Diemont - Spain
Just an example of what I found at some of the shows last year, they all get a brochure with encouragement to join the club !

How the club started
Our son Daniel had always wanted a Figaro having seen the car at his local garage when he was just 16. After saving for a number of years (plus a small contribution from his mum and dad!) he, at last, brought an emerald green model in May 2008. See him pictured with Figgy aged just 19 bless him >>

Following the purchase, we searched on the internet for a club in the hope we could attend events and meet other owners. We were amazed that at that time no club existed so the Figaro Owners Club was born!

"We decided to build a basic website and forum which took a few months and on the 1st March 2009, pressed the publish button and waited to see if anyone wanted to join? Within a week we had 10 members, a month 35 and a year 478!"

Today the club has around 1,300 members worldwide in countries including New Zealand, Japan, Australia, USA, Canada, Germany, Spain, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Sweden and many more.
