The Cybersecurity Mentorship Program Project Showcase took place on May 23rd, 24th, and 25th. At this concluding event for the Spring cohort of the program, student mentees presented the projects they worked on throughout the session under the guidance of their mentors. We got to see outstanding innovative projects!
The Program matches cybersecurity professionals with diverse undergraduate cybersecurity students in Massachusetts. The Spring 2022 cycle of the program kicked off on March 1st with a RECORD total of 41 mentee/mentor pairings, which included mentees from six new schools and mentors from ten new companies/organizations.
Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Mike Kennealy delivered keynote remarks that highlighted the importance of this program: "As a Commonwealth we do everything we can to promote the entry of diverse talent into our STEM workforce, which is why this program is so important."
The events wrapped up with inspirational remarks from Michael Brown, RADM, USN, Ret. who is the Chair of the Massachusetts Cybersecurity Strategy Council. It was a great way to acknowledge the accomplishments from this session.
Student mentees, like Mohamed Abougalala—an undergrad at Northeastern University—also presented their projects. His innovative project focused on the importance of having a good, updated, and reliable anti-virus software to prevent hacking. You can watch a snippet of his presentation below.
