The 2021 “Virtually Yours” Convention is ready to go…
(But first, let’s make sure we all have our “ducks” in a row!)
We have prepared, prepared some more, and are now ready to present, to all of you, the 2021 “Virtually Yours” Convention. Linda Diltz, Convention Coordinator, the State Leadership Team and a few others have worked very hard to bring every aspect of the 2021 Virtual Convention together. To achieve mutual success and ensure that all of the events scheduled for Friday, April 9 and Saturday, April 10, run smoothly, we want to be reassured we are all on the same page and/or have all of our “ducks” in a row. Your State Leadership Team is ready! Are you? Your efforts, due diligence and cooperation will make all of the difference to making it a successful convention. Be sure to read the following Convention Preview, Part II to “get all of your ducks in a row!”
Convention is only 8 days away. We simply cannot wait to see all of you April 9th.
Get ready…get set…let’s go Ohio!

“Let’s Get All of Our Ducks in a Row!”
Protocols for the 2021 “Virtually Yours”
DKG/OSO State Convention
1. How do I attend a virtual convention?
-
Register for the DKG/OSO State Convention by clicking on the link in The Voice or on the state website (www.dkgohio.org). When an email is received from Diana Kirkpatrick with the link for the Convention, SAVE IT! Put it on your calendar, make a notation of when the email was received, flag or star the email so you can find it easily.
-
Login early. Upon entering use the “Chat” feature to sign in with your full name and chapter name. Put your computer on “Speaker” view and “Mute” your computer. Unlike the recent Breakout sessions which encouraged conversation prior to the presenter’s presentation we ask that everyone refrain from unmuting and talking to others. In this formal business format setting, private chats are inappropriate and discouraged.
- Basically, for most of the Convention, everyone will just be viewing and listening.
- Times are subject to change.
- All Convention sessions will be recorded.
2. What’s happening on Friday, April 9, 2021?
- Login begins at 6:00 P.M. Do this as early as possible. Be patient while the hostesses admit you from the waiting room. We anticipate there will be many members using the login.
- Sign-in using “Chat.” Upon entering type your first and last name and your chapter for the purpose of tracking your chapter’s Gold Key requirements and the Convention attendance award.
- Set your screen on “Speaker” view, mute your computer, and make yourself comfortable as you wait patiently for the Convention events to begin.
-
Promptly at 6:30 P.M., there will be a flag presentation followed by a welcome by President Diana Kirkpatrick. Around 6:45, Leila Kubesch, 2020 Ohio Teacher of the Year, will be introduced as the keynote speaker. Again, please use “Speaker” view and remain muted.
-
At 7:00 P.M., the General Session will begin, followed by the Executive Board Meeting. If you have a question or comment about an item of business, please type it in “Chat.” Dr. Norma Kirby and Dr. Lois Harkins will be monitoring all questions and comments that are posted in “Chat” and will relay your questions and/or comments to President Diana. Please remain muted unless you are called upon by the State President, to unmute.
-
A gentle reminder that the Proposed Amendments to the DKG/OSO Bylaws and proposed changes to the Standing Rules will be presented at the Friday General Session of the State Convention. The DKG/OSO Bylaws and Standing Rules are located in the 2021 Convention Program in this edition of The Voice. Please view and study them prior to the General Session. The Bylaws and Standing Rules may be voted on as a group. However, if there are any individual amendments or standing rules you believe need to be separated, from the group, and individually discussed (which will also require a separate vote), it is imperative to notify and inform the OSO State President before the convention in order to help facilitate an efficiently and effectively managed business meeting. Your efforts, due diligence and cooperation, in this matter of concern, will be greatly appreciated.
Voting will be done with a ballot that will pop-up on your screen. Most ballots will be a “yes” or “no” option. Mark your vote and click “Submit.”
- Cheryl Quay will lead the singing of the Delta Kappa Gamma song.
- Click on “Leave” or “End.” Have a good night, and we will see all of you “bright” and “early” in the morning!
3. What happens on Saturday, April 10, 2021?
-
If you are a member of the Executive Board, login at 8:30. Sign-in using “Chat” to type your first and last name and chapter name to receive and complete your credit for attending the Executive Board Meeting for your chapter’s Gold Key requirement. President Diana Kirkpatrick will guide you in voting on the items and/or motions that were discussed Friday evening at Executive Board. When prompted, you will vote and submit your ballot. When the voting and results have been completed, you are free to leave that meeting.
-
Login for the “Virtually Yours” DKG/OSO State Convention begins at 9:00 A.M. for everyone. Please be patient as you wait your turn to be admitted. Again, we anticipate many members using the login.
- Once you have been admitted to the Convention, sign-in using “Chat.” Type your first and last name and your chapter name for the purpose of tracking your chapter’s Gold Key requirements and the Convention attendance award.
- Set your screen on “Speaker” view, mute your computer, and make yourself comfortable as you wait patiently for the Convention events to begin.
- President Diana Kirkpatrick will begin with the “Thought for the Day” after which the new State Officers for the 2021-2023 biennium will be installed.
- Gold Key Chapters and Milestone Chapters will be recognized. At the conclusion of the reading of recognized Gold Key chapters or Milestone chapters, the presidents of these chapters will hold up their certificates when called to do so.
- Rebecca Psigoda will be the Inspirational Keynote Speaker for Saturday.
- Induction of Rebecca Psigoda, candidate for Honorary State Membership.
- ADSOEF Director, Sandy Royer will share a Birthday Celebration Fundraiser, and Director Marilyn Slusser will recognize the Esther Strickland Student Teaching Grant recipients and will introduce the A. Margaret Boyd Overseas Fellowship recipient, Gunel Alasgarova from Azerbaijan.
- Cathy Tenney will present a video of “Chapter Covid Happenings” featuring various chapter events and projects during the pandemic.
- The Celebration of Life service for 2019-2021 will be held at the conclusion of the convention. When a member’s name from your chapter is read, please click on the heart in the “Reactions” option. The heart will disappear after a few seconds.
- You will be prompted when to leave the Convention.
4. If your internet connection gets interrupted, go back to your email and click again on the link to rejoin the Convention.

Convention Preview, Part II
"Let's Get All of Our Ducks in a Row"
|
|
With the “Virtually Yours” DKG/OSO State Convention less than two weeks away on April 9 and 10, 2021, President Diana thought it might be a good idea to share more details and the protocol with our members for our first ever convention using Zoom technology. In an effort to help everyone feel more comfortable with the format of the State Convention, an additional “Convention Preview” is scheduled for Monday, April 5, 2021, at 7:00 P.M. on Zoom. This preview will go into greater detail than the first one that was held in February. Appropriate protocol will also be shared and discussed since the State Convention will be a more formal presentation than the breakout sessions.
It is our intent for all convention attendees to be completely comfortable with the method for signing in for attendance using the “Chat” feature, as well as, how to submit a ballot and how to ask a question using “Chat". It is important for you to register in advance for the “Convention Preview, Part II” using the link below. After registering, make sure you flag the email from President Diana Kirkpatrick and put the date and time on your calendar to help you remember to join us on Monday, April 5, 2021, at 7:00 P.M. E-Blasts will continue to be sent as reminders to register and to attend the many upcoming events. All links can also be found on the state website: www.dkgohio.org. This is a perfect opportunity to attend the DKG/OSO State Convention at no cost and from the comfort and safety of your own home. Register and become part of DKG Ohio State Convention history!! See you there!!

A Message From Your ADSOEF Chairman
|
|
A big THANK YOU to ALL for deciding to attend the fourth Annual Meeting of ADSOEF! This organization is still young as far as foundations are concerned, but we are making good progress toward our mission. You will find out how on April 8th!
Three incidentals:
First of all, please register for this meeting now if you haven’t done so already. The Board would love for a record number of Foundation members to listen to and applaud each other, vote, ask questions and give input on the continuing operation of this charity. Please login early, Thursday, April 8 at 6:30 P.M.
Second, I need to apologize and tell you that we made errors on page 22 of the original publication of the 2021 Foundation Report. The corrected 2021 FOUNDATION REPORT is now posted on our website, linked above, and sent to your Chapter Representatives so everyone should have access to the corrected copy. Read it; you’ll like it!
Finally, I encourage you to attend. See the good you are doing in our world by sharing the gift of higher education with women from other countries: Nomin last year, and now Gunel! See and hear about the goodwill you are sharing by providing funds to spread the joy and freedom that comes from learning! Meet the student teachers who may be teaching your children, grandchildren, or great grands because of your generosity! Learn about the awards that are available to you and your DKG sisters!
I look forward to seeing YOU! You are a FOUNDATION like no other in OHIO!

"A Heart for All"
Birthday Luncheon Celebration
|
|
During OSO Convention we traditionally give monetary gifts at the Birthday Luncheon. This is to honor the organizing of OSO, Chapter birthday, or anyone's birthday. We will continue the tradition with a virtual party on Saturday, April 10 during this year's Convention.
|
|
OSO Birthday Non-Luncheon gift has a "sprout" started from one seed of $1,000. Will you gift more seeds? Starting now, use the contribution form to give to the fund of your choice and mail with your check.
|
|
Continue the tradition - make a donation.
More sprouts give a bountiful crop.
Join the CELEBRATION on April 10 at 11:00 A.M. when we unwrap the gifts.
Let the spirit of
"A Heart for All" continue!

Convention Attendance Award
|
|
Although this year’s convention will be virtual, there are plans to still award and recognize chapters with the best convention attendance. This year we simply have added a special “pandemic twist” or variation, if you will, to the rules.
And the 2021 attendance rules are:
- The attendance award time period begins on March 2, 2021, and runs through April 29, 2021.
- To receive attendance credit chapter members must sign in through the Zoom “CHAT” feature for each event they attend. Sign in with your name and list your chapter’s name.
-
The top five chapters with the highest average percentage of members in attendance at all the convention events, (including breakout sessions for March and April, the two convention meetings for Friday evening and Saturday morning, plus the April 8, 2021, Annual ADSOEF Board Meeting) will be announced in the May edition of The Voice.
- The chapter with the highest percentage overall average will have their name engraved upon the official Ohio Convention Attendance Award Plaque and will receive a membership voucher for the full payment of dues for a newly inducted chapter member for the 2021-2022 calendar year.
- The engraved attendance plaque will be presented to the top winning chapter at the Executive Board meeting this fall.
- The four remaining chapters will each receive a $50.00 membership voucher to put toward the partial payment of dues for a newly inducted chapter member for the 2021-2022 calendar year.
Please Note:
- Rankings will be calculated based on the average percentage of all the chapter's members in attendance at each individual session. Members who attend multiple sessions will be included each time they participate in a meeting.
- The final rankings will be based on a cumulative chapter attendance at all convention events and meetings.
