Late October 2019 library news
There's a LOT to share in this late-October newsletter, so I'll get straight to the point -- Grab your calendar so you can mark down some dates, and read on for a list of the activities still coming up in the next couple of weeks. See you at the library!

Local history interviews: the Brunner Sisters

This Wednesday we'll host another Mercer History interview with the Brunner sisters, Margaret (Peg) Brunner, Kathy Kadrlik (née Brunner) and Jean White (née Brunner). Join us on Wednesday, October 23rd at 1:00 p.m. All three women grew up in Mercer and will share their stories of what it was like to grow up here and some of the changes they've seen over the years. All are welcome to join us and listen in to stories about Mercer's past!
Craft Swap

Time to clean out the craft room and make your way to our Craft Swap on Friday, October 25 at 11:00 a.m. Bring in some extra craft supplies to contribute and take home things that you can use. There's no charge to participate - just bring what you can share and take what you can use.

Any supplies not claimed at the end of the day will be donated to Goodwill. Please limit the volume of the items you bring so that the library doesn’t have too much stuff to deal with when it’s over!

The library will provide light refreshments, and we hope this will be a fun morning of “shopping” through your friends and neighbors’ supplies. For more information, call the library at 715-476-2366.
Lake Superior Research Institute Groundwater study

Researcher Kelsey Prihoda will share results from the Northwest Wisconsin Groundwater Monitoring Project at a public presentation on Wednesday, October 30 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mercer Public Library and Community Center.

The 18-month groundwater monitoring study was conducted by the Lake Superior Research Institute (LSRI) at University of Wisconsin-Superior, and many of our library users picked up water sample kits to participate in the study. Learn more about the study's findings, the characterizations of wells in northwest Wisconsin, and recommendations for private well testing and local resources at Prihodas's presentation.
Grown-Up Story Hour

The Liberty Way Tap House will host our next Grown-up Story Hour on Wednesday, October 30 at 6:00 p.m. This month we'll feature stories for the Halloween season. All are welcome and no purchase is necessary, though drinks are available from the Tap House and food is available from Home Slice Pizza.
Trunk or Treat - October 31

Mercer students will be trick-or-treating in downtown Mercer on Halloween, Thursday, October 31 at 3:30-5:30 p.m.

The Mercer Library will sponsor its first “Trunk-or-Treat” for Mercer organizations and residents — set up at the library and hand out treats to Mercer’s youngest costumed residents. All are welcome to participate, and you can decorate your vehicle in the parking lot, wear a costume, or otherwise get into the Halloween spirit if you like. We have 7 community organizations signed up so far, and if you'd like to join us, too, please call and let us know you’re coming — 715-476-2366.
