Early this summer my family went to see Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. I have loved these movies for decades and one of the best parts of this franchise is the nuggets or callbacks to previous stories that make the current movie all the better and deeper. This one had eels (that looked a lot like snakes), whips, token phrases, comments about artifacts belonging in a museum, guest appearances by beloved past characters, references to voodoo and exploding planes. These callbacks immediately took those of us who know this franchise deeper into the full story with simply an image, a word, or a phrase.
This week we start the Narrative Lectionary again. We will be reviewing (or learning for the first time) some of the main stories in the Old Testament from Creation, to Adam, to Jacob to Moses, Ruth, Elijah, Isaiah, to Josiah. All these Old Testament stories help to shape our understanding of Jesus and without them we cannot have the full franchise experience. Join me in going deeper into being a follower of Jesus by knowing the whole story this fall.
God's Peace,
Pastor Sara
