Pump It Up!

2023 Pump It Up Celebration is Tuesday!


The College of Public Health’s “Pump It Up” celebration and semester kick-off event is TUESDAY from 4-6:30PM at the Gatton Student Center, Grand Ballroom A/B! All of our students, along with friends, are welcome to connect and celebrate with the public health community, a place where you belong. At this event, you will experience a new appreciation for becoming a pumped-up public health champion.


The fun begins at 4 p.m. with registration/networking and activities while heavy hors d'oeuvres start at 4:30 p.m. UK's mascot The Wildcat will be there from 4-5 p.m. (take your photo and say hi!). Speakers will be from 5-6 p.m. and include Dr. Connie White and Dr. Rob Edwards. See the full schedule and more details here.

Graduate Program Overview Virtual Info Session

Sign up for our Virtual Zoom Graduate Program overview to learn all about our programs. You will be able to meet and speak with college representatives regarding program curriculum, scholarships, admissions, and more! Should you be able to meet virtually, a Zoom link will be sent once registered. We look forward to discussing with you how a Graduate Career in Public Health is the right choice for you!

EPI-BIO Lecture Series:

Oshea D. Johnson, PhD

Oshea Johnson, PhD, CDC EIS Officer, KY Department for Public Health, will discuss “Pubic Health on the ground and research experiences as a CDC EIS Officer station at the Kentucky Department for Public Health."

Student Engagement & Academic Success (SEAS) Open House!

The SEAS office has moved from Research Facility #1 to the College of Nursing Building, Sixth Floor, Suite 613. This is an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to see the new space, which includes SEAS Staff Offices in addition to the CPH student lounge. The Student Engagement and Academic Success Office is a one-stop shop for students where they can find support throughout the student lifecycle from recruitment to graduation and beyond. Light refreshments will be provided.

Student Opportunities

3rd annual Sustainability Research Poster Competition

Graduate and undergraduate students are encouraged to submit their sustainability-related research as a poster for a general audience. Only 18 Graduates and 18 Undergraduates will be accepted. Judging will take place without student presentations. Students will have the opportunity to present their research during the UK Sustainability Showcase on Sept. 27. Deadline to submit is Sept. 18.

2023 TCOM Conference: Call for Poster Abstracts

The Transformational Collaborative Outcomes Management (TCOM) will be held Oct. 4-6 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Downtown Lexington. Students can network with professionals in the field – including healthcare executives, researchers, and policymakers gaining valuable insights into potential career paths and the challenges and opportunities facing healthcare today. Students are encouraged to submit a poster abstract by August 26.

Kentucky Department for Public Health Internship Opportunities

Applications are now open for internships and practicum opportunities at the Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH) until Sept. 1, 2023. Virtual, in-person, hybrid, and paid positions are available for bachelors, masters, and even a few for doctoral level students. There are opportunities in oral health (focusing on prenatal), health equity, epidemiology, environmental health, environmental epi, public health nursing training program, disease and wastewater surveillance, community resource management, local health department data, quality improvement, maternal and child health, sexual health for teens, women’s health, and more.

Dr. Haynes conducts health tracking study in East Palestine


The University of Kentucky College of Public Health launched a health tracking study led by Dr. Erin Haynes, the Kurt W. Deuschle Professor of Preventive Medicine and Environmental Health and the chair of UK’s Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health, to uncover potential long-term health effects of residents following the East Palestine, Ohio, train derailment on Feb. 3. The train was carrying hazardous materials, which has raised concern about short- and long-term effects they might have on East Palestine residents’ health. 

CPH students explore policy issues

at KyPolicy's Summer Policy Institute


Two University of Kentucky College of Public Health (CPH) students — Kangai Miriti and Ashley Grospitch —were among only 15 students to participate in the Kentucky Center for Economic Policy’s (KyPolicy’s) inaugural Summer Policy Institute (SPI) at Kentucky State University. Students from across the state were selected to explore Kentucky’s top policy issues alongside KyPolicy experts.
