President's Message
As our schools start to wind down their year, PTA during May couldn’t be busier! PTA officers and volunteers have a lot to do in these last months of the term we sometimes refer to as the 100 days of May!

Elections should have already been held or are happening this month. All PTAs must have a President, Secretary and Treasurer to be in good standing. If we can help with elections, reach out to us.

Now that more schools are allowing volunteers on campus, start thinking about recruiting new leaders for your PTA. As you greet families returning to campus events, consider asking them to join a PTA committee. There's never "too much help" in a PTA.

Ninth District PTA will be offering in-person training this summer and early fall. Watch for information in your inbox soon. Investing a few hours in training has a tremendous payback and can guide you and your PTA to a great year. No matter how many training events I've attended, I always get something out of each and every one.

Close this year with a bang with all of the excitement year-end brings. Share with us, invite us, include us. We're here to help.

Ninth District PTA June Association Meeting
Wednesday, June 15, 2022
6:30 to 7 PM
Zoom

All Ninth District PTA members are invited.

Our plans have changed. Instead of an in-person meeting on June 6, we're holding a virtual meeting on June 15. The meeting will be short - just 30 minutes - but we plan to pack a lot in: conduct important business, hear from our California State PTA president Carol Green and recognize your accomplishments.

We need your help to reach our quorum.
If every PTA registers at least one representative to attend this 30-minute virtual meeting, we can do it! Stay tuned for an upcoming eblast with the registration details.

What does the May Revise Budget mean for California Schools

Kevin will highlight some of the changes outlined in the Governor’s May Revise budget proposal and answer questions from our members. All PTA members welcome to this free event!
Angst - Film Screening and panel discussion

Ninth District PTA delegates energized at
California State PTA Convention
Over 40 Ninth District PTA members attended the California State PTA convention in Ontario, California. Highlights were the Reflections honorees, excellent workshops, hearing from State PTA leaders and meeting other delegates in person! The delegates adopted a resolution Plant Based Food Options at School Meals. If your PTA wants more plant-based food options at your school cafeteria, this resolution gives you authority to start advocating!

Next year's convention will be in Sacramento. Consider including funds in your budget to send a voting delegate from your PTA.
Welcome to our newest PTA!
Logan Memorial PTSA
San Diego Unified Council of PTAs

We're excited that one of San Diego Unified's newest schools, Logan Memorial Educational Campus, has chosen to become part of the PTA family. What makes this school unique is that it's designed to serve children from "cradle to career" as it includes a preschool, an elementary school, a middle school and a high school. The campus is already serving students through 8th grade and the high school opens next year.
This PTSA was organized on May 12, 2022 with 31 charter members!

PTA Rosters
Wanted: 2022-2023 PTA Board Rosters

As soon as your election is over, we need your roster. This ensures that your Council, District, State and National PTA can connect with your PTA. We also need the president's home address so he or she will receive the all-important summer mailing from California State PTA.

Two ways to upload your roster. Do it yourself at the MyPTEZ website (Click Here for instructions) or email your roster to Ninth District PTA at office@ninthdistrictpta.org and we'll upload for you.
Parliamentary Pointers
Can we still conduct PTA business meetings virtually?

During the COVID pandemic, California State PTA allowed units to meet virtually even if it wasn't strictly allowed in the bylaws. That exemption expired December 31, 2021. Going forward, your unit bylaws determine if your PTA has the option to hold meetings virtually. The 2020, 2021 and 2022 bylaws templates give associations the option of conducting association, executive board and committee meetings via teleconference - unless specifically lined out. The language is permissive “Members of the [body] may participate in….”

The best way to ensure you have the option to hold virtual meetings is to update your bylaws.

Questions? Contact Ninth District parliamentarian Sue King at parliamentarian@ninthdistrictpta.org.

How many Volunteer Hours did your PTA contribute this year?

Auditor Tips
Prepare for your Final Audit

Auditors should be preparing for the final audit of their current fiscal year – start collecting data now to reduce your workload after the year ends. If you use Google Drive or something similar, you can create a shared folder to collect treasurer reports, meeting minutes, bank statements, account reconciliations, and other data identified in the Audit Checklist. If there were recommendations from the first audit period, you should be checking up on how those are being implemented.

For more tips, Click Here.

If you need more help, contact your council auditor, or Michael King at auditor@ninthdistrictpta.org.
Finances
Get ready to close out the fiscal year
As the school year comes to an end, take some time to prepare the PTA for next year! Each officer should prepare information for the incoming officer. Even if the officer isn't transitioning, this is still a great time to clean things up and "catch up" before the beginning of the year.

Financial officers have very important work to close out the fiscal year and prepare the financial records for the next fiscal year. Visit the toolkit for the full list of important activities!

New Way to Pay Insurance Next Year
The PTA Insurance premium for next year will be paid directly to our insurance carrier, AIM, in late October. Please budget 10 percent more than this year for the premium amount. The PTA president will receive the email with information on how to remit the payment so make sure the officer contact information is up to date!

Questions? Contact your Council Treasurer or Ninth District PTA treasurer Shawna Straw
Health
May is Mental Health Awareness Month

As a parent, you want the best for your children. You may be concerned or have questions about certain behaviors they exhibit and how to ensure they get help.

Nowadays it can feel like there is a massive disconnect between us and nature. Sometimes it can be overlooked how much nature can help us feel better. Here’s a few reasons why it’s great to get out and about.
