Zarahana N. Kargbo (a.k.a. Zara), a High School Visual Artists attending Oakland School for the Arts, (OSA). Zara has produced many works of art using acrylic paints, charcoal, ink, pencil, and mixed mediums. At a very early age, Zara developed her artistic sensibility and learned hands on art techniques at various art camps. Being expressive and creative focusing on facial features and expressions of any subject, as a visual artist she has grown in her ability to bring details that highlight the natural essence of any piece. When painting, bright colors and texture helps bring energy to a painting with gestures and placement on canvas. With still life art, depth, shadows, and light is always the focus.
Zara is an award recipient of the 2023 Bay Area Creative Foundation in the Creative Youth category for her Zebra Hybrid Self Portrait painting which is included in their online 2023 Creative Gallery. An internship in the summer of 2022 with the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) lead to an extended opportunity to be a curator in Old Roots, New Leaves, a mixed-media exhibition curated by ten youth artists in MoAD’s first teen-led art exhibition. Her paintings can be seen in the museum through March 2024.
Zara’s recent appearance on KRON4 A-MAY-Zing kids in May 2023 gave her recognition as one of the Bay Area’s young up and coming Artist.
