Dr. Elefteriadou, the Director of the UF Transportation Institute (UFTI) and Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Florida, will present at INFRADAY FLORIDA this Tuesday, August 31 – 10:00am to 5:00pm ET. INFRADAY FLORIDA will feature over 30 city and state agencies in discussions on the future of infrastructure, mobility & transportation in Florida. Dr. Xiang 'Jacob' Yan Wins Best PHD Dissertation Award from the World Society for Transport and Land Use Research (WSTLUR)
Dr. Xiang ‘Jacob’ Yan’s dissertation filed at the University of Michigan won the Best PHD Dissertation award from the World Society for Transport and Land Use Research (WSTLUR). Titled Redefining the Value of Accessibility: Toward a Better Understanding of How Accessibility Shapes Household Residential Location and Travel Choices, the dissertation challenges the travel-cost savings (TCS)-based view of accessibility benefits. “I am honored to receive the best dissertation award from #WSTLUR! It provides me great confidence to continue doing work that (hopefully) pushes the boundaries of accessibility research,” says Dr. Yan.

Dr. Hassan Azad & Dr. Sanjay Ranka Lead Project Funded by The National Science Foundation
The NSF project is titled SCC-PG Remote Sensing and Prediction of Environmental Noise to Facilitate Addressing the Social and Health Issues of Noise - Pilot Study: Schools and Hospitals. The project was awarded on July 24, 2021, in the amount of $149,437. It is led by Dr. Azad and Dr. Ranka of the University of Florida in collaboration with Dr. Laurie M. Heller from Carnegie-Mellon University and Dr. Alireza Shoajei Kol Kachi from Mississippi State University.
The project will create novel methodologies to measure, record, and analyze the environmental noise in large scales for cities using a combined remote sensing technology. This project has great potential to improve the well-being of individuals who reside, work, or spend time in the vicinity of noisy environments and is expected to be completed by September 30, 2022 .

Abstracts are now being accepted for the Research to Practice Transit Symposium, which will take place October 12 to 14, 2021. This symposium will be online and with optional in-person field visits to agencies in Gainesville and Jacksonville, Florida. As the transit industry strives to Build Back Better after COVID-19, the symposium will provide a platform where transit experts share insights into how evidence-based research has been or can be translated into practice. The symposium is organized by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), the University of Florida Transportation Institute (UFTI), the T-SCORE/GaTech and the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). STRIDE Workforce Development Practitioner Survey
The Southeastern Transportation Research, Innovation, Development and Education Center (STRIDE) at the University of Florida Transportation Institute needs your help to complete a survey related to the State of Transportation Workforce Development Practice in the Southeastern United States. The intent for this survey is to understand and document best practices in workforce development for the transportation sector and develop a workforce training framework and plan for the southeast region. The survey takes 10 to 20 minutes to complete.

I-MAP Works to Ensure Independence & Mobility for Drivers across the Lifespan
The UF Institute for Mobility, Activity and Participation (I-MAP) strives to provide evidence-based screening, assessments, and interventions to enhance independent, safe, and appropriate mobility for drivers across the lifespan. The I-MAP has 11 ongoing projects considering a variety of populations, including older adults, individuals with disabilities, and Veterans. In addition to serving communities, the I-MAP researchers have acquired funding from the National Institute of Health (NIH) to educate future rehabilitation scientists in occupational therapy.

As more sensors are added to roadway infrastructure and vehicles themselves, opportunities are created to advance traffic signal timing efficiency and enhance safety applications for traditional vehicles as well as for connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs).
