"For it is in giving that we receive."

–St. Francis of Assisi

It's hard to believe with temperatures near 70 degrees, but November is upon us. And that means that Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament's third "A Season of Giving" kicks off!

Building on the enthusiasm and success of recent years, OLBS continues to be a parish of service. Our donations of time, talent and treasure will support our OLBS parish community and help bring comfort and joy this season to those in the greater community as well. Read on or follow this link to discover more!

Christmas Elves Stocking Project

Make holidays merry and bright for children at Mission Our Lady of Angels with stocking stuffer toys and candies. Drop items off in marked bins at QR and SJE when you attend Mass between November 5th and 19th. Look for signs with the Wish List or call the parish office at (847) 979-0901.

Christmas Angel Tree

Adopt a family, as a group or individually, and bring joy to those less fortunate this Christmas season. Look for the Angel Trees in both QR and SJE vestibules and select your family ornament the weekend of November 12th-13th. Then let the fun begin as you start shopping!

Bring wrapped gifts, packaged in a single bag or box marked with your family number, to Shea Hall between December 5th and 9th. All gifts are due to church the weekend of December 10th and 11th. Look for more information in upcoming bulletins and e-News or call the parish office at (847) 979-0901.

Catholic Charities Dinners

Though things have largely returned to "normal," attendance at weekly Catholic Charities Dinners in Des Plaines remains above 100 guests, compared with approximately 60 guests in 2019.

Your generous donations to the Poor Box (one located in each church) support our OLBS Parish Outreach ministries at Christmas and throughout the year. We will also take up a special collection at daily Mass at Queen of the Rosary on Thanksgiving Day (celebrated at 9am on Thursday, November 24th) to support the Poor Box. OLBS supports a Catholic Charities Dinner each month throughout the year to help feed the hungry in our community.

Things4WINGS

To help break the cycle of domestic violence, the WINGS Program provides housing and advocacy services to women and children escaping unsafe living situations.

Look for collection bins in both church vestibules November 19th to 25th. More information and suggested donation lists will appear in upcoming bulletins and eNews.

Winter Suppers

Journeys/PADS has been housing 90-120 homeless neighbors in local hotels since 2019, and OLBS has been providing one Winter Supper per month to help feed these neighbors. As PADS overnight sites begin to re-open, that number is expected to shrink, but as long as there's a need, we'll continue to meet at Shea Hall to assemble meals and pack food bags for pickup by JOURNEYS/PADS. Look for Signup links in upcoming bulletins and e-News.

Blood Drive

Blood is urgently needed at this time. Examples of transfusion needs are:

  • Cancer: up to 8 units/month
  • Bone Marrow Transplant: up to 2 units/day
  • Liver Transplant: up to 100 units
  • Auto Accident: up to 50 units
  • Cardiovascular Surgery: 2-25 units

A Blood Drive will take place at the Charles J. Zettek Municipal Complex on Saturday, November 12th between 8am and 1pm. Follow this link for more information. Walk-ins welcome, appointments recommended.

Save a life by donating blood.

Toy Drive

Your new, unwrapped toy donations will bring holiday cheer to children at Mission Our Lady of Angels again this year. Look for collection bins at both QR and SJE to drop toys, dolls, games and more off when you attend Mass between December 3rd and 11th.

Questions? Call the parish office (847) 979-0901.

Toy Drive

We are again trying to raise $1,000, or more if we can do it, to help Catholic Extension build faith, inspire hope and ignite change in underprivileged areas across the United States. Look for blue envelopes in our church vestibules from December 12th to January 6th.

Questions? Call the parish office (847) 979-0901.
