The regular October Lakeway City Council meeting took place on Monday, Oct. 17 starting at 6 p.m. at Lakeway City Hall. Here is a brief recap from that meeting:
MOMENT OF SILENCE
Mayor Kilgore led a moment of silence for former Mayor Steve Swan, who passed away in late September. Former Mayor Swan served in a variety of volunteer roles with the City of Lakeway, most notably as mayor from 2005 to 2009.
NEW FINANCE DIRECTOR
City Council approved (7-0) the Consent Agenda items, including an item appointing a new finance director. The City of Lakeway welcomes Finance Director Aaron Daigle, who is a Certified Public Accountant, has a master's degree in accounting, as well as 15 years of experience in governmental accounting.
FY 2022 FINANCIAL REPORT
Interim City Manager Joseph Molis gave an update on the City's finances for the end of FY 2022 (which ended Sept. 30, 2022). The final FY 2022 budget is showing additional revenue in the amount of $285,754, with an additional amount around $500,000 expected to come in soon from delayed sales tax revenue. For expenditures, the City of Lakeway saw a savings of $1,418,309 due mainly to salary savings.
MUNCIPAL COURT AWARD
Lakeway Municipal Court Judge Kevin Madison introduced the recently awarded 2022 Municipal Traffic Safety Initiatives (MTSI) Award received by the Lakeway Court recently. The Lakeway Municipal Court received its 10th award since 2008 for court categories serving a population under 30,000, making Lakeway's court the most awarded of any low volume court in the State of Texas. WILDFIRE MITIGATION UPDATE
Lakeway Parks & Recreation Director Andra Bennett and Lake Travis Fire Rescue staff gave a final update on the Hamilton Greenbelt I & II wildfire mitigation program, which started in 2019 and finished last month. The 75-acre area is 100% complete with the creation of shaded fuel breaks and removing dead and downed limbs to help prevent a potential wildfire. The final project came in under budget by $70,669.56 after an initial approved estimate in 2019 of $350,000.
LAKE TRAVIS ISD BOND ELECTION
Superintendent Paul Norton with Lake Travis ISD gave an update on the bond election happening with the school district , which will be on the Nov. 8 ballot. For more information about the school district bond, please visit: ltisdschools.org/bond.
GOLF CART ORDINANCE
City Council approved (6-1) an amendment the City's Code of Ordinances pertaining to the operation of golf carts on local public roads at the meeting Monday evening. Golf carts will be able to drive on public local roads with a posted speed not exceeding 35 mph, and will also be allowed on certain recreational paths (not sidewalks), and at city-sponsored events. Those driving a golf cart will need to have a proper state issued license and license plate. Certain local roads will also have restrictions due to safety concerns, including Serene Hills Drive, Bee Creek Road and Lohmans Spur. Golf cart operators will also need to carry the appropriate liability insurance, follow the Texas Transportation Code guidelines, and only operate during daytime hours. Lap riding and pulling items like trailers will also be prohibited. The new ordinance will take effect Jan. 1, 2023.
