Dear MMBA Community,

Our Board of Directors and Staff, wish you a healthy and prosperous new year.

In 2021, the MMBA Board of Directors brought on a strong, dedicated staff to develop, launch, and implement programs to support businesses. We also established a charitable 501c3 in the Mid-Market Foundation.

With the support of the Mayor our first major program launched in partnership with Urban Alchemy to deliver the Mid-Market/Tenderloin Community Based Safety Program. The program has had positive impacts in and around our deployment areas while also amplifying the need for more resources and coordination. When it comes to safety, we know there is much work still to do.

Following the advocacy of residents and businesses, Mayor London Breed has declared a state of emergency for the Tenderloin to address the impacts of organized drug dealing and the overdose crisis. Following a marathon meeting on December 23rd, the Board of Supervisors approved the emergency order for a 90-day operation coordinated through the Department of Emergency Management.

MMBA is committed to working with all city and private partners collectively to address issues we face in fulfilling our vision for a welcoming and inclusive business setting for everyone.

In early 2022, we’ll be holding a series of meetings with stakeholders, from property owners to independent artists, to inform our strategic planning and programs in 2022.

COMMUNITY BASED SAFETY PROGRAM IN OCTOBER

During the holidays, Urban Alchemy Practitioners were surprised with thank you notes from neighborhood youth. The notes of appreciation brought some practitioners to tears.

This program is made possible with $8.8M in funding

support from the Mayor, over two years, and requires

at least $3M more from the private sector over that time.

Urban Alchemy Definitions of Service Engagements and Interventions

Positive Engagements

1-3 minute engagements to build positive relationships and serve as community connector. Practitioners provide visitors, residents, and neighbors directions, district information, service connections and resource information.

Inviting Space, Social Norm Interventions

Intervention with a neighbor or resident to invite them to participate in creating a safe and inviting public space for all by maintaining a path clear of debris. Practitioners make a good faith effort to interrupt anti-social behavior including but not limited to public urination/defecation, littering, and general noise disturbances.

De-Escalation Interventions

Practitioners assist with relational and other interventions to help contain mental health episodes, and to prevent or interrupt street violence. Solutions may include referring to appropriate service personnel like EMTs, HOT, or, lastly, the police.

The Hibernia will help those who help others in 2022!

HIBERNIA_124.png

Nonprofits help to improve the quality of life for others at the community, local, national, and global levels. The lack of LIVE events over the past 18 months have created severe financial shortcomings for many of these organizations. San Francisco and Bay Area nonprofits are looking to rebound in 2022 and we are here to help.

The Hibernia has made it our goal to help 10 lucky nonprofit companies get back to live events and raising money without the substantial overhead that can come with planning and producing fundraising events.

We are now offering a complete waiver of venue rental fees to 10 worthy organizations who have fundraisers in the first half of 2022. This waiver represents a savings of

$18-25K for most events. Please email info@thehiberniasf.com and let us know why

your Nonprofit organization should be one of the lucky 10.

Happy New Year!

*Venue rental Waiver applies to facility rental fees only, labor and other production costs still apply.
