Jay Newell, professor in advertising and Greenlee associate director, was recognized as the recipient of the 2020 Allen Essman Faculty Fellowship at the Oct. 2 Advisory Council meeting. The fellowship recognizes excellence in advertising and/or public relations education. The award was made possible by Iowa State alumna and Greenlee School Advisory Council member Denise Essman (’73 marketing) in memory of her late husband, Allen K. Where others have led, current students can follow. Our new Jump-Start Internship Database offers an easier way to search and sort the previous five years of 499 internships completed successfully by Greenlee majors. This tool is one of many resources available to Greenlee majors who are looking for an opportunity to complete their 400-hour internship requirement.
The Greenlee School hosted a virtual Greenlee Alumni and Friends Kickoff meeting on Jan. 21 with a focus on how alumni and friends can get involved. Michael Dahlstrom, director and LAS Dean's Professor, and Dan Winters, chair of the Greenlee Advisory Council, led the event. Chris Cuellar ('11 journalism and mass communication) shared his experience mentoring Greenlee students this summer, Ritika Agrawal, senior in advertising, recapped her remote internships with NBCUniversal and E! Network, and Loretta McGraw, senior in journalism and mass communication, discussed how Greenlee scholarships have supported her student experience. If you missed it, you can find the recording on the event page.
