Dear Supporters,

We're currently partnered with 16 different organizations and are teaching 304 classes this semester, which translates to 4,560 student class hours! Because of YOUR help, kids at risk of diet related diseases across the Bay Area are busy learning how to eat right for life.

I know I speak for everyone at Kids Cooking for Life when I say that we are all truly passionate about the work we do.

We are truly grateful to you all for supporting us and helping us to grow our mission. We couldn't do it without you!

THANK YOU!
Warm wishes,
Lara Rajninger,
Executive Director.
Proud to Be Partnering with Aspire
As part of the grant we received stemming from the Oakland Soda tax, it was stipulated that we teach two classes each semester in an under resourced school in Oakland. We're proud to be teaching at Berkley Maynard Academy, which is part of the Aspire School Organization.

Aspire Public Schools operate small, high-quality, college-prep, publicly funded charter schools in low-income neighborhoods, with the aim of increasing the academic performance of underserved students. Aspire is equity focused and runs 36 different schools across California, ranging from TK to 12th grade, with the aim of ensuring college entrance to all students. We are thrilled to be forging positive change with them.
White House Hunger, Nutrition & Health Conference
We’ve been heartened to see that in September the Biden Administration held the first conference on hunger, nutrition and health since 1969.

With eight billion dollars in funding from the private and public sectors, the goal is to reduce hunger and diet related diseases, address food inequality and increase health across America by 2030.

While widespread change won't be immediate, the last conference set the precedent for food and nutrition legislation for many decades. We're so glad that action is being taken at a federal level, using current research. We couldn't be prouder to be part of a nutrition initiative that already seeks to strengthen and empower those in our most vulnerable communities.
Meet Our Instructor - Rosie Castro
Rosie’s fond cooking memories come from family holidays when her mother and maternal aunts engaged her, her siblings, and her cousins with their delicious and elaborate traditional meals from Puebla State in México. She believes that children can learn the art of cooking by bonding with family and learning new recipes.

Rosie worked in the hotel food and beverage industry for over a decade. Meeting people from various ethnic backgrounds allowed her to travel and become fascinated with a wide range of food tastes and flavors. She eventually obtained an Associate Degree in Sciences and a certificate in nutrition.

Teaching nutrition and cooking is an opportunity for Rosie to help kids learn and develop a passion for healthy, tasty, and mindful eating. Furthermore, she is fully bilingual which enables her to work with our Spanish speaking students who struggle with English.
Pumpkin Bread Pudding Cups
With no added sugar, the sweetness in this delicious dessert comes from raisins and applesauce. Pumpkin and pumpkin pie spices round out the fall flavors. Needless to say, it's been a big hit with our students.
