The Cossitt PTC will be meeting via zoom on Tuesday, January 12th, at 7:00pm. We will be discussing some upcoming activities like our Tiger DanceFit fundraiser and upcoming virtual trivia night for parents. We hope you can join us!!

Steak + Vine Fundraiser

Monday 1/18 through Thursday 1/21/21, 5p-8pm! 
 
Take a break from cooking and enjoy delicious dinners at our wonderful local steakhouse, Steak + Vine-- 15% of proceeds will be donated to our PTC! Bring the attached flyer in or show it on your smartphone when ordering in person, or mention the fundraiser when ordering via phone or online. Please note that Steak + Vine will not be able to count orders paid with gift cards as qualifying for the fundraiser.

We need your help to fill our yearbook with amazing Cossitt memories!  If you have great photos at school, virtual learning, or virtual activities please send them to us!

Notorious RBG: Virtual Exhibition

Join us for a virtual viewing of the first-ever museum exhibition focused solely on this judicial icon and cultural touchstone, focusing on her numerous, often simultaneous roles as student, wife, mother, lawyer, judge, women's rights pioneer and internet phenomenon. We are excited to offer Cossitt families an hour-long virtual Zoom tour of this blockbuster Illinois Holocaust Museum exhibit Saturday, January 16 at 2pm. A Museum docent will lead us through pre-recorded exhibit footage, answering questions at the end of the tour. Note the presentation is appropriate for youth but one of the court cases discussed involves abortion. Registration ends January 12th

Author Visit

Mark your calendars! The Cossitt LRC will welcome New York Times best selling author Jennifer L. Holm for a virtual visit with 5th and 6th graders on Friday, January 15th. Ms. Holm will talk with students about her career as an author and her new book, The Lion of Mars. You may be familiar with some of her other work, including The Fourteenth Goldfish and Sunny Side Up.

To guarantee a signed (bookplate) copy of her book, please place your order by Friday, January 22nd, using the link provided below. All books will be delivered to Cossitt School after January 22nd, unless you choose ship to home when ordering (separate fee applies.)

Sixth Grade Yearbook Art

Attention 6th grade parents! You child is invited to create artwork for the yearbook cover! We hope your sixth graders take this opportunity to get creative and contribute to their last yearbook at Cossitt. All artwork submissions that meet the requirements laid out in the attached flyer will be considered for the front and back covers of the yearbook, and those not selected for the covers are often printed elsewhere in the book. Submissions are due TODAY! Fifth Grade March Madness Book Tournament

Get excited! Our Virtual March Madness 5th Grade battle will begin the week of February 15, 2021. Check out the book list. Kids can enjoy reading these fabulous books over the holiday break! Also, don't forget to check out Mrs. Davis' awesome 5th-grade LRC Canvas page for more information on each book. 

Please encourage your kiddos to participate. This is a free PTC sponsored event that builds community, team building, and the love for reading. Practices will be held on Wednesdays, 11:20-12:00. Kids are welcome to eat lunch during the Zoom. The tournament day/time is still TBD. 

Click the button below to sign up! It would be helpful to sign up your kids as soon as possible so that we can create and order bookmarks for all students participating. (To ensure that kids receive bookmarks in time to enjoy using them, please sign up as soon as possible).

Calling for parent volunteers. Each practice will need roughly 4 volunteers to help facilitate the Zoom breakout rooms. Activities will be provided. Kids will practice learning the title and authors of each book using fun, interactive learning platforms and will also practice answering "In which book" questions. Volunteer with just a click of a button!
