Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week: May 3rd-7th
|
|
This year has been an unprecedented one for students, families and teachers!
We want to show our appreciation to the teachers and staff that have risen above and beyond in adjusting and executing in these unexpected and challenging times.
While COVID-19 restrictions are in place for our traditional way of celebrating, we have a lineup of treats planned for both hybrid and virtual teachers, and suggestions on how you can show your gratitude each day.
Gifts are not prohibited, but they are discouraged and rather, we encourage communications of gratitude and appreciation.
More information to come about the Kudoboard.
Here you will find out more information!

Volunteers Needed: Amity Committee Co-Chairs
|
|
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Amity Committee Co-Chairs for the 2021- 2022 Academic Year
The Amity Committee helps coordinate and support six Spanish-speaking interns who come to assist teachers and students for a full school year. This is a year-round position with most work done in the spring (interviewing potential interns and recruiting host families) through summer when host families are confirmed and interns arrive just prior to the start of school.
Other main jobs include:
- Serve as a coordinator between the Amity interns and the the school administration and teacher mentors.
- Act as a school coordinator for Amity International, make sure paperwork is updated and turned in on time
- Recruit, place interns with, and support host families
- Recruit, manage and support liaisons (a person who works on the committee to help support individual interns)
We will have two open co-chair positions at the end of this school year that will have to be filled as the Amity interns are a critical part of our students Spanish immersion experience.
If you are interested in volunteering to co-chair the Amity Committee or have any questions, please contact our current co-chairs, Sara Henson and Kristen McSherry, at amity@puestadelsolpta.org.

PTA Board Spotlight |
|
Andrew Schnickel, Co-President
What grades and classroom are your children currently? I have a second grader in Maestra Torres's class, and a kindergartener in Sra. Zapata's class.
Current Role, and how long have you been in it? This is my first year on the board, serving as Co-President.
What do you most like about your role? I like that my board service gives me the opportunity to help facilitate the great work our teachers, staff, and PTA volunteers do to provide our kids with rich educational experiences. My work schedule often doesn't allow me to participate in PTA events during the school day, so serving on the board is a way I can contribute and be involved in PTA activities. I'm also fortunate to work for an employer that matches volunteer hours, so my volunteer time helps the PTA financially as well.
What skills are helpful in this role and how much time do you usually spend in the role per week? My role as Co-President is to ensure our Directors and their committees have the resources they need to run their respective programs, and ensuring our PTA is in good legal standing. A lot of my responsibilities include coordinating communication between board members, school staff, and broader PTA organizations at the city and state level. I typically devote a few hours each week to PTA work, though it can be more when we have a lot of things going on.
What is something you do that may not seem obvious to others? I work full time as a video game developer. In addition to volunteering with the PTA, I'm also a den leader for my kids' Cub Scout pack. When we're not in a pandemic, I play hockey throughout most of the year. I'm grateful to all the volunteers who contribute their time and skills to support the growth of our kids. Your interactions, big or small, have a meaningful impact. Thank you! Name a fun PTA memory. I love the rare opportunities I get to be on campus and interacting directly with the kids. I've enjoyed helping with Field Day and classroom festivals in prior years, and I'm hopeful that we'll get to resume those activities again next year. Name one of your family's favorite go-to places and why: Our family loves going to Lake Tahoe with extended family and friends. Alpine swimming and hiking in the summer, skiing in the winter. It's a beautiful place to be. What is your favorite ice cream flavor (or other treat)? Anything chocolate. Mixed with chocolate. And sprinkled or drizzled with chocolate. Extreme Maximum Fudge Moose Tracks ice cream. Triple chocolate cake. Molten lava cake. Dark chocolate truffles. The richer, the better!
