Pastor's Message

The Waiting is Over!

The season of Advent is one that over the years I have grown to appreciate throughout the years. When I was a kid, the waiting was forever, and I just wanted Advent to be over. I didn’t want the count down. I didn’t care about the preparing. However, now, the anticipation and preparatory work is my favorite part. I love decorating and the buildup for Christmas.

I find it ironic or perhaps just perfect timing that Christmas’s arrival and the arrival of our first baby at Seeds of Grace coincided on the same week. It was early last year, that the Seeds of Grace Director Sandy Schmoll came to me with a calling to expand our daycare to infants. My initial reaction was to point out how loud the babies might be (after all we know whoever wrote the line “no crying he makes” in Away in a Manager wasn’t telling the truth).  Truthfully, I have been so excited for the babies to come. Seeds of Grace has been preparing and waiting for our babies’ arrival for a long time. The room has been set, the infant teacher hired and still the inspector did not come. Finally last week, we got the go ahead and they are here. On Monday we had one baby and on Tuesday two. In the next few months our infant room will be filled with 8 babies, who will be loved, rocked, fed and cared for by our incredible staff at Seeds of Grace.

What a gift a baby is to remind us what Christmas is all about: vulnerability, care and hope. Hope in this little child who will lead us forth in love. Thanks be to God!

Blessings,
Pastor Joanna

Thank you and thanks be to God for God’s generous love for all of us! Please note that year-end gifts need to be postmarked or dropped off at the church by December 31st, 2021.

Farewell, Mark…

On December 22nd, our custodian Mark Kempenich will celebrate 13 years as custodian at Grace. He started his ministry in 2008 and those who have met him or interacted with him know that he always has a smile to share as he goes about his tasks. You could see him with his equipment on walking around the church, making sure our hallways, rooms and sanctuary looked ship shape. He embraced the new challenges of 2020 with increased sanitizing of all common areas and made sure our offices, classrooms and doors were cleaned and sanitized. Thank you for rolling up your sleeves and helping with the chaos of COVID cleaning, Mark!  You set up rooms, took tables down, and made sure the church building was secure after countless community and ministry meetings over the years. We will miss the happy sounds of the Golden Rule/Seeds of Grace kiddos calling for him: Mr. Mark! Mr. Mark! - he always had time to talk with them and make them smile. You will be greatly missed by them. You will be greatly missed by all of us. Join us during our January 15th services as we honor his 13 years of ministry at Grace as he enjoys retirement with his wife, Terry. Mark’s last day at Grace will be December 29th.

Thank you, Mark and God Bless!
