The Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Rural Pediatric Scholarship application cycle is now open! This scholarship is designed for MUSM students passionate about and intending to practice General Pediatrics. The Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Rural Pediatric Scholarship covers 100% tuition and fees for up to 4 years in exchange for a commitment to practice General Pediatrics for four continuous years full-time in an approved medically underserved rural Georgia county. Additional information and the application are located on our website.

 

Please submit your application by 11:59 pm on Sunday, December 31, 2023, in order to be considered for the 2023-24 cycle. Late submissions will not be accepted.

Volunteers Needed for Upcoming Community Health Fairs

The Georgia Rural Health Innovation Center and MUSM are hosting a series of health fairs in rural communities across Georgia and need medical students to lead teddy bear clinics, conduct blood pressure checks, and perform other health demonstrations. We appreciate when students from the area serve in their home counties, but we encourage everyone to participate.

October 5 - 15 10 am - 9 pm

Experience the fun of the fair while sharing our mission's important with Georgians from all over our great state! Student volunteers will give blood pressure checks and lead teddy bear clinics. All volunteers will get a free t-shirt and free entry to the fair.

One-Year Blood Cancer Research Training for URiM Medical Students

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Underrepresented Minority Medical Student Research Program provides minority medical students the opportunity to experience cutting-edge research alongside experienced blood cancer scientists. Students will perform laboratory research for one year and will be provided with $75,000 for living expenses and up to $5,000 for relocation costs.


The program is available for second-, third-, or fourth-year minority MD students. The deadline to apply is November 1.

Southeastern Branch of the American Society for Microbiology

The Southeastern Branch of the American Society for Microbiology (SEB-ASM) is holding an annual Branch meeting showcasing microbiology research in the Southeast. They will also administer a Branch Awards program that recognizes local microbiologists' outstanding research and teaching contributions.

Highlighting Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islanders in Medicine 

Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (AANHPI) scientists have made many landmark discoveries that have changed the course of science and medicine and fundamentally altered how we live and understand the world around us. Some of these include establishing a link between joint paint and elevated levels of uric acid and developing a low-cost incubator to treat children diagnosed with jaundice. 2023 - 2024 Parking Decals

Mercer Police have begun ticketing vehicles without a current parking decal. If you have not completed the parking decal request form for this academic year, please do so ASAP on your MyMercer dashboard. View complete instructions for more details. Once issued, parking decals can be collected on each campus from:

  • Macon - Tiffany Borel in the dean's office (MD students) or your program director (graduate programs)
  • Columbus - Hayley Dukes in the lobby
  • Savannah - Dion Arkwright in the reception area
